Anyone noticed a marked increase in their S3 car insurance this year than the last? I'm getting quotes of £200-400 more than last year on average.

I'm guessing the IPT hike and the amount of S3's stolen at the moment has caused this?

I'm paying £1500 for the year at the moment so I'll tell you next March!

I renewed mine in August and it was maybe £50 more over last year..but oddly my renewal quote was the cheapest.

Jesus. Mine was £450 last year.

Do you have any NCB?

I'm 23 so yeah I do, I think it's 2 years but I had a big crash back in 2014 which wasn't my fault but it stays on for 3 years and actually expires on Sunday!

485/yr for me. Well down on last yr

480 for me with legal protection, NCB protection etc. 4 yrs no claims.

Actually cheaper than my 2011 TT which was about £550.

I'd been with Adrian Flux for about 4 years ever since I got my Fiesta ST, but they refused to insure me on the S3 as it's too much of a high performance car! This is from the 'performance car insurance specialists.' I'm 27 and held a licence since I'm 17 so not exactly the highest risk bracket. I switched to e-sure in the end.

Yes - Admiral wanted an extra £400 this year - i was paying near enough £700 a year out in the middle of the countryside, gated drive and then in a garage overnight - social, domestic and commuting, 12k miles a year.

Went via the Meerkat site and brought that down to £450 with LV.

8 years no claims.

Admiral did try to match the quote but couldn't get near it saying - 'the rise is to do with the car, not you'.

I’m with Admiral and pay around £400 and mine’s parked on the road in a town. It’s an absolute lottery with insurance quotes I reckon.

Before the wife had her own car we used to switch the main driver each year to ensure we both kept our no claims, I tried to do this with her as main driver a couple of years back and they wanted £300 more!! I queried this with the Admiral guy and he said they take everything into account and then basically the computer spits out a random number . He said to try again in a few months and it might be the other way round . We ended up buying a car for her anyway.

I’m 33 with 12 years NC by the way, she is 37 with 10 years. Admiral have always been by far the cheapest for me on all the comparison sites for some reason.

IPT increase will have played a part as will the impact of compensation discount rates (ease read article at MSE site (I'm not affiliated etc with this site);
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/ne...ter-government-rethinks-compensation-shake-up (about 10%) amongst usual variables.

So how surprised was I to see that my insurance is marginally cheaper if I park on the road than on the driveway behind wooden estate gates!

Common for driveway parking to be more expensive than on road as it means potential thieves know the house where the keys are and makes little difference if you tell your car insurer you have high grade security locks, cctv and an alarm

Not for me. Two non-fault accidents in the past 2 years. I have 7 years NCB with so called 'Protected NCB', what an utter scam that is. LV coming out at well over £700 for me. 1st Central coming out cheapest, but not too sure on the brand tbh.

Interesting to know, thanks. Another interesting point is having a tracker puts the quote up with Churchill/Admiral!

I was with 1st Central last year. They're appropriately underwritten and, admittedly having not had to claim so having little to do with them, wouldn't hesitate to use them if the price was right.

Cheers for the info. I take it someone else was cheaper for you this year?

Hi,
I'm really surprised we couldn't offer some form of quotation. Very unusual for us. Please feel free to try us again next year if you wish.
Regards,
Dan.

Sorry, I meant on my last renewal. This year will be a different circumstance as I'll be the owner of an S3 before it comes to renewal. I think it'll be AXA for me.

my insurance has gone up £96 this year and if i do a new quote on confused, gocompare or meerkat cheapest i found was £200 more :wtf:

Rather than starting a new thread thought I would piggy back this one.

Looking to insure my S3 once it arrIves and just wondered who You are with ie sponsor on here, compare the market/go compare etc…

Prices are silly.

my car will be unmodified so won’t need a modified friendly insurer unless they can help - Adrian Flux were the go to but of late on standard cars, full ncb, mature driver they can’t get anywhere close to realistic.

any advice welcome

mike

Hi.
Please feel free to give us a try for insurance if you haven't done so already.
Regards,
Dan.

I've always found Greenlight to be very competive on price for both modified and un-modified.

Had a quick read through this thread and Andrew's comment sums up my experience, and also looking at insurance comparison threads on other car forums. I'm convinced that the people who man the phones for these companies don't have the foggiest idea how the algorithms work. As someone said, they just plug in the numbers and the computer produces a quote. The same as what you can do yourself online of course. There are dozens of companies that can spit out quotes (using their own algorithms, reflecting the type of customer they are targeting), but what really matters is how they deal with claims.

One surprising little fact (based on authenticated info from one insurance company) is that telling a car insurance system that you routinely garage your car at night will generally produce a more expensive quote that saying that you just leave it parked on your driveway. For the simple reason that many careless drivers damage their cars getting them in and out of their undersized garages. In many areas of the UK (but not all!) this risk outweighs the benefit of it being locked away safe after dark.
