I’m a busy boy as I have a new born so can’t spend too much time writing this up. But I took it out for a few hours down the lanes in the rain and plenty of mud this afternoon..

I’ve had a few nice motors here and there but I’m certainly no expert by any stretch. However I have three words for you ..

The only way I can describe the feeling after an hour or so in the lanes is how I felt when finished a Palmer Sport day a few years ago. My heart was still pounding hours later. This is one ridiculous bit of kit gentlemen. If you get the opportunity to drive one grab it with both hands and give it some ****..

Incidentally, it sounds much better in the flesh than it does on my phone playing it back. Or maybe I was just love drunk immediately after I got out. Either way, it sounded just perfect after a good warm up to me!

Spent more time driving than taking pics or vids but here’s a taster.. I’ll try and sort a vid of the exhaust sound in a few mins..

Did that have the sports exhaust system on it?

Maybe the sound quality was poor on the video but think my S4 exhaust sounds better than that?

I think it's difficult gauging exhaust noise from a smartphone video! According to an aftermarket Exhaust company...
'We haven’t developed the system as yet but when we do we’ll be in touch. Regardless, a cost effective way of getting sound from the exhaust line would be to fit a non resonated centre section, and keeping the exhaust box valves permanently open.' Is this doable without upsetting Audi and warranty issues etc?

Yep it doesn’t come through very well.. I was standing behind it thinking how good it sounded and then played it back and it sounded nowhere near as good. I can assure you it sounds much better than my S5 in the flesh though

So, get a load of this! Just dropped my car off for a service at a Yorkshire dealer. Ready to pick up my courtesy car. Ya know, hoping for something a bit fruity but nope...not only do I not get the new RS4/5 they have in but,

"We no longer insure people on our cars that are celebrities, military or sports personalities".

What the actual f***?! Anybody else know if this is Audi wide? It's disgraceful. Talk about demographics...

So even IF I get a test drive in new RS4 it's gonna be escorted and 'under scrutiny?' Wow.

Used to use Listers but less impressed in recent years and discount offered on RS was rubbish! I quote...
At very best we'd be looking 3-4% discount max as it's a new model.

Sorted. So!

It's a Sytner Group policy. They apologised and got my car out to my work when job was complete. They said it's a new policy and they didn't understand it fully at the time. 9/10 times I'll be 'approved' for insurance on a courtesy car..? Anyway. Not ideal. But they handled it well and made up for it.

Ahhh. Just seen their post on Instagram showing this car Been speaking to Simon there recently about a B8 and my desired spec.

Nice to see the lunar silver interior there mate. Brighter cabin. I could be down that way in a couple of weeks. Will hook up a test drive if possible. See what RS6s they have too at the time. Genuinely a good experience at Poole Audi. They are an Audi Sport dealership after all

The B9 RS4 is growing on me and when i do come to think about changing the S4 it will probably be on the list depending on what price they appear on the second hand market. so far the list is B9 RS4, C7 RS6 and C8 S6... (all depends on what i can convince the wife.. she's still not letting me forget the issues with the RS4.. so have got a few years to wear her down....)

B8 RS4 is a nice colour.. missing the black pack and HHA and black interior.. that would make it perfect.. also a nice set of carbon mirrors would finish it off...

for some reason i hate chrome, not even really a fan of the silver mirrors. much prefer black or carbon.. last 3 audis have all had the black pack.. so i admit i won't look at an Audi unless it has it. even the wife is annoyed her A1 does have the black pack...

Yes mate. The B9 chassis is superb. Well, that's what this forum is for and why it's so good. A place we can come and slabber over our 'next car' plans haha. Going to sign off for tonight with these two. The greatest things about the old/outgoing. Extremely capable and most importantly...epic noise!

So.

There's a fair bunch of us that are pretty passionate about our cars and the latest offerings from Audi Sport. Comparing them to Quattro GmbH seems to be a pretty lively topic recently.

I think it's fair to say that the B9 has split the crowd! But why? I mean, it's went back to its roots essentially, has it not? I'm not really a turbo 6 fan in all honestly but I love how the B5 has aged. It still looks great. The B7 was just so compact and pumped up and, along with the manual, it's easy to see why the purists love it still.

I'm a B8.5 fan. I've loved it ever since I seen it in Top Gear magazine in 2012. They drove from one end of the UK to the other covering the very best roads and it just looked so pumped up and capable. They perfected that 4.2 with the S-Tronic. So, now that it's at a price I can really justify paying, I've set the wheels in motion and cannot wait til my spec is found! I'm paying £578 for my B9 S4 and just doesn't make me feel excited like the RS4 does.

So, why is the crowd so split on the B9? Is it simply NA V8 vs Turbo 6? Or is it more? Think this could be a good topic because it seems to overshadow plenty of other threads haha. They get hijacked.

I think the B9 looks great. Honestly. Lighter, more agile and angular. Flared arches still in tact. But it's just that hissy turbo and weak exhaust for me. Not once have I laughed like a schoolboy watching a review. But the B8 does it every single time. Even 6 years later...So why do the guys buying this new one love it so much? Keen to know.

Orrrrr, is it simply not worth the extra over the very capable S4 Avant?

No...I'm not arguing with you. I'd like to own one down the line. Just for my practical needs and where I'm at just now, I want a V8 with a huge boot and the B8 has been my dream car for years. That Alpha is so so good.

It's quite easy. They deployed a single branch over the rear axle to save money and to harmonize resonance before the mufflers to meet these new stupid rules. You can just make it a proper twin branch all the way through like any other decent sounding turbo V6.

Same issue as the S4 which AWE fixed.
