I always liked the RCZ, didn't they do an R version?
Yeah on its last year or so of production think they managed 276 bhp out of the 1600cc engine yet to see one of them on the road the RCZ-R that is, l had the 150 bhp GT variant and had 2 years trouble free motoring from it was a good car in hindsight

Wouldn’t have admitted that big yin, sister had one and she’s a diva :yahoo:
I had one of the first RCZ"s on the road, never had a car that turned heads so much, and always got asked if the roof was made of glass as well, as it blended into the double bubble rear glass screen so well,

Funnily enough l got a few Thumbs up from 911 drivers

It will be nice to hear your comparison to the S3

3 days and 4 hours or so worth of driving under my belt and the car just gets better and better, and still not had some decently dryish roads.

It really is unfair to try and compare the S3 to something that is twice the cost and has 3 less seats. The Porsche is mechanically far better in every aspect but the S3 is not that far behind. The well documented niggles of S3 owners (under steer, steering feedback, non mag ride bounce etc.) really are minor niggles. For a high performance small family hatchback well done Audi for doing so well in making a family hatchback/saloon perform as well as it does.

Nice things that have surprised me in the Porsche.....

Sound...nothing wrong with it, cant understand those bemoaning the demise of the 6 cylinder engine....Sport plus with sports exhaust sounds amazing

Brakes...always liked the S3 brakes but the Cayman brakes, which in the 718 are inherited from the 911, are someithing else, apparently designed to stop the car in less than half the time it go to that speed...someithing around 1.5 - 2 secs to stop from 60 (or about 100 feet, or something like that)

Visibility...excellent all round and far better than the TTS or R8's I have driven in the past

Is there anything in the Cayman I would change for something in the A3/S3......yes....surprisingly I miss virtual cockpit. The Porsche touchscreen is best I have used and centre display is good and control for both very intuitive but prefer the configuration options and size of google maps of the VC. Not surprisingly I have not spent a lot of time playing with options yet but not to worry those nice people at Porsche will send round a product expert in the next couple of weeks to help set up stuff you have not quite worked out how to do, great for us non manual readers for sure.

minor niggles in the Porsche......

Very minor judders on pulling away off show room floors or block paved drives which is a function of a very rigid chassis and traction control instantly noticing small losses of grip apparently and well documented and pointed out by dealer on collection

In normal (wife mode.... :) ) rather than Sport or Sport plus the turbo lag is similar to that of the S3 but once the power arrives pick up is amazingly fast and makes the S3 feel a little pedestrian. In other modes power availability is instant.

Car is already filthy so more pics to follow when the weather improves

Great mini review mate. It's nice to hear an unbiased review and to hear the S3 still has good traits compared to others. I'll be fifty in a 2 x months and I hear the same comments regarding S3 steering etc but I'm no race driver, I just like the "gentlemen express" feel I have with it. I have had a driver experience day in the R8 and a Cayman (non S) and the Porsche did feel tighter and was a blast. I need to stick with my 4 x seaters at the moment until the daughter moves on lol but then maybe...………...
I love the 6 x cylinder motors (nearly had a 140i) but they are a dying breed, which is a shame. Nice of the Porsche guy to offer to pop round and assist, imagine asking an Audi expert around to your house for assistance lol. I imagine you will have many, many, miles of driving/grinning mate as it sounds like a really great choice.
Oh, and a Porsche probably looks good dirty or clean :thumbs up:

Simple.....S3 is a great car and is easily the top pick for balance between best performance and quality build of all the hot hatches

good reality check for me to make me realise how lucky I am

Know how that is.....son now at uni and daugheter moves out in 2 weeks, S3 rear seats were used half a dozen times in 18 months

Lol, if I were to kick my daughter out childline would be knocking, 14 year old so a wee while to go yet plus I'm probably over protective so she can live here as long as she likes (all boyfriends WILL be vetted).

Hahaha, been through past vetting as well, I love all of my kids partners. Not to go all comparing and that but I thought my having kids were over with the previous GF until I met the wife.
I did start young and have 31 y/old daughter, 30 y/old son, 29 y/old son, 24 y/old daughter and the 14 year old daughter + 6 grandkids. But at 50 years old there is absolutely no chance what so ever I'm having any more, snip, snip.

Haha, just watched that film the other week. The poor wee lad bricked it when the big Samoan approached him, great film IMO.

Dreadful film to be honest they stole most of the plot and most of the scenes from HEAT

Yep was a definite remake of Heat....but they were never going to get anywhere near the original. :sunglasses:
I still enjoyed it though. :relaxed:
