Hi guys,

I was hoping you could help me with a couple of issues that I'm having with my new A3.
I've bought recently a A3 2.0 Tdi S-line 2013 150bhp, and 2 weeks later the speakers stopped working, everything else, MMi, Sat Nav, etc works fine but there is no sound as if it's muted. Occasionally they work and when they do, it works fine but vast majority of the times there is no sound at all.

Took the car to Audi they run diagnostics and couldn't find anything, said that all components are working fine. Then I took the car to a audio specialist who physically inspected all the wiring and run another diagnostics and found out that the control module under the glove box (or cd player) might be faulty, at least there is the only thing they can think of that affects the speakers like that. I'm decided to buy a second hand unit to replace this one but I have learnt that even buying a replacement unit with the same part-number, this might need re-coding?

Can anyone help understand if this is the case, and if yes what do I need to do?

Thank you,

Andre

If possible scan it and save the coding and then copy it to the new box and see if that fixes it. If unable to save the current code it’s going to be quite difficult to get the exact coding correct without a lot of work.

Depending on the module you will have component protection to deal with on a second hand unit.
There’s been a few thread here with broken MMI units. Symptoms sound similar to yours.

thanks guys, I have found the code of the original unit and recode it back to the new one but it says now that "some of infotainment systems might not work". I'll try to find some more information

If you have changed the whole mmi unit as above it will need component protection removed by a dealer unfortunately.

You have a faulty amp within the MMI unit, common issue. You cannot just swap out and code in a new / replacement one as component protection is a factor.

I see a number of these and suggest you remove the glovebox unit, take note of the part number, find a used replacement from eBay and then bring it to an authorised 3rd party like myself who can both code and remove the component protection in order to get you up and running again.

DjAlix I already bought a second hand replacement from ebay, do you think you could sort this out? I can't find anyone that knows what they are doing and keep spending money... if you can quote me that would be great!!
Another question is if it would be possible to repair the original unit? and potentially sell it later.

Thank you

Assuming that the replacement unit is the same or a compatible part number, is not faulty and not stolen then I can sort this for you. I am not mobile and you would need to visit me in North London.

In my experience repairing these units works out the same price as sourcing one used so people don’t normally bother unless it’s a Harman Technology Pack unit. I don’t know of anyone who offers a repair service tho :(

Can get me via 07950 737 899 or via my website:
