Different engine warm up times

I remember my old 1.9tdi 130hp b6 a4 would start blowing warm (ish) air within a certain distance. I still live at the same place but the b7 3.0tdi Quattro takes ages to warm up in comparison.
I appreciate the difference between 4 and 6 cylinders and the extra cold oil and coolant but which engine would you expect to be warm quicker?

Something is wrong my guess would be the stat.My 2.5tdi is as quick as any to warm up and as good as the 1.9 which preceeded it

I was quoted £78 for the water pump and thermostat which I will get when I do the serpentine belt and tensioner.
