I'm having some trouble diagnosing a knocking sound on my a3. The knock appears at idle and moves with engine RPM (except when decelerating, then it appears to go away and come back either when throttle is applied or it has returned to idle). The noise definitely appears to be coming from the Cam Chain / Cylinder 1 region.
I initially suspected cam chain and took it to a local shop to have them diagnose it, they came back and confirmed a loose chain. They also performed an oil pressure test and compression test and confirmed that was all good.
I changed the cam chain and guides over the past weekend but sadly the noise is still there afterwards.
I've also tried checking for any DTC's or pending DTC's using the Ross-Tech scanner and not getting anything.
I plan to check lifters this weekend to see if it's not possibly a lifter or spring.
