2013 (8V) A3 1.4 TFSi - Engine check light on

Hi there,

I have an opportunity to buy a 2013 (8V) A3 1.4 TFSi, however, at present the Engine check light is on (fixed not flashing). Having had a few Audi’s with intermittent lights coming on, some requiring attention & others not I know it might or might not be something?!?!. The car has both a good FSH & MOT history. It is a private sale with the owner open to any inspection. I was going to get a mechanic friend to run an OBD2 diagnostic test, I wondered if this would be the best approach or is there anyone with some further advice?

Scan the car, do not buy until you've done this & got a reason for the light & they either fix it or discount the repair cost.

However, they may already be banking on a discount to offer as they know it's got an error, tread carefully & at any point walk away if your gut says so, its no worth the hassle

Why people try to sell cars with errors is beyond me at times as the hassle afterwards is ridiculous.
