NEED HELP

So guys a dark day has come for me, broke down on Monday, engine light on, juddering when accelerating and knocking noise from engine. Don’t know exactly what’s wrong still but I know there’s piston damage and might need an engine rebuild would it be worth going through with it or just selling the car as it is? Has anyone gone through this before?

It’s an S3 8v pre facelift 2016 but 2015 plate and 68k miles

Your choice if you opt for a rebuild (original) or replacement engine be it another refreshed or breakers engine. Get those costs & see if its worth it. Look how much a similar age/mileage/condition working S3 are going for as that'll help factor in costs.
Any idea what caused the failure?
Are you able to do any work on it yourself or all garage labour costs?
Are you attached to the car?
Is it your only means of transport?
Any trustworthy garages near you who would be able to diagnose the exact fault or are you able to do this?
