A3 8P 1.6 FSI GAS SMELL

Hi everyone!
For quite a while I have noticed that after driving my car, there is a smell of gas coming out. It doesn't happen always, but usually enough. I can only smell it outside the car and the source is the gas cap. When I open the lid, the smell is very intense but the cap seems to be well fitted. Any ideas on this??

Try another cap or add a cardboard gasket temporarily to see if it stops, thus proving the seal has become aged.

How's the consumption, any visible fuel leaking marker's.

Thank you both for your replies. I checked this thread @ahtcap and maybe it can solve the problem.
@NHN Consumption is not good, there is an increase but long before the smell showed up. I checked for leak markers and there is none. I also checked for smell while motor was on and noticed the gas smell was intense from the exhaust tip. I attach photos from the gas cap. As you can see, the wire from the lid is cut while the ring from the cap seems a bit cracked.
