Does anyone know if the clutch is disengaged when the car starts to 'coast'. I assume it does as the engine is shut down. Could this lead to additional wear on the clutch pack as the car switches between coasting and not?

You are right to think that the cutches are disengaged when the car coasts. I would not have thought that this causes increased clutch wear as the car matches the engine to the gearbox speed when re-engaging the clutches. Added to that, DSG cars have been coasting long before MHEV engines were introduced (with the engine in idle) without reports of increased clutch wear.
