I have purchased my car without the MFSW but would like to install one now. Once the steering wheel is installed, how do I activate it? Do I have to use VAG com and change the MFSW settings or do I need more parts and/or changes?

Much appreciated!:)

I wouldn't bother mate it does very little has a volume control but the mode button is non functional unless you have a phone prep you can change radio channels and cd tracks but thats it.
Do a search and see the thread Ithink it was (Hah- multi function steering wheel) that will give you all the info you need.

Yes, you'll need vag com to change the settings, but you may need a new steering ecu!.
I think it depends on whether you have paddles or not. The mfsw uses the same wiring loom as the paddles.
I was lucky as mine's dsg and it worked as soon as I altered the settings.
As said it is limited if you don't have gsm prep, but I love mine as the thumbwheel's are perfectly placed making it so easy to adjust the volume and tracks/stations etc.

Thanks!

Yes I also have DSG on mine and I was just looking for the perfectly placed thumb controls for volume and track changes. I know its not much but sometimes you just want it when you don't have it...

So it will work if I have DSG and a MFSW by just changing the channel settings with VAG COM? (looking at a S4 steering wheel...Yummy:p )

The first thing I noticed about my car when I bought it was the distance I had to reach to change the volume as I'd been used to using a MFSW on my last car.

I'm not a short **** either....LOL

I have just read the old MFSW thread, and I have to say I am thinking of removing this from what I was planning on ordering.

I didnt have it on my previous A3, but I was thinking of getting it on the new one, seems like its a waste of time.

Thoughts?

You are correct mate I have it but wouldn't bother with it again.

Just like to confirm if a change with the VAG COM will do the job for a DSG equipped car...If it does work I'll be on my way to order one now!!!:)

Only get it if your getting the phone prep, which IMO is a must in this day and age!

Also a MFSW or better still a FBMFSW looks nicer and will be more sought after come sale time!

I wonder what the % is of S3 owners who have a MFSW or FBMFSW 90%?

I have a FBMFSW and the bluetooth phone prep on my S3... the best options I speccedQQ very handy indeed...

The only way to find out I'm afraid is to try it. Keep a look out on ebay as they do they come up. I got mine for under £60

If you could get the flat version in the S-Line I would be tempted.
I am not planning on the phone prep though, so might not be worth it.

It's not so much the phone prep, it's the bluetooth, your phone book ( from your phone ) downloads to the car, so you scroll down using your MFSW/FBMFSW and it shows up on your DIS , you make your calls without taking your hands of the wheel, it's great, i'd never have a car without it now!

Same here.... first car with bluetooth prep... from now on it will be a "standard" spec on all my next cars..

Pedro

It's a great piece of kit, will also be on my next car. Bit pricey though.

Anyone got the cost of the bluetooth phone prep?
I cant see it in the brochure.

Thanks in advance.

It was £385 as a factory option when I bought my car, but it might have gone up a bit by now.

Sounds like a wonderful thing to have! However, we don't get this option (or any option other than the colour) in this part of the world...

Just visited my local Audi "specialist" yesterday and he told me that although I have DSG, fitting a MFSW and reprogramming via VAG COM will NOT do the trick as the connectors in the MFSW are different compared to the non MFSW DSG ones.... Guess I have to live with it...

Not in mine they were'nt. The only problem I had was the airbag was different.

Thanks for the reply.... I guess I have to buy it to find out...

Ive just fitted a FBMFSW for Nathon (N8KOW) the wheel was DSG and MF these both went into one plug about 3mm x 15mm, there is a connector which plugs onto the back of the air bag and another connector to take the wire from the DSG & MF. It has a bigger plug which plugs into the slip ring.

His new airbag had the wrong connector wire, but it was only £30 for the correct wire. Hope the above makes sense

Thanks guys.

I see my "specialist" tomorrow for a Brembo 6 pot install and will speak with him then. Hope it all works out!

Thanks again:happy:

6 pots? and a 6 point harness to stop you snapping the seatbelts!!

Sorry N8KOW....what does ECS stand for?

Not to side track this tread too much..the 6 pot is supposed to have a more even pressure over the pads with better modulation due to different sized pots...from what I know it should not stop better than similar sized disks / pads but should have more control...

Still...the deceleration for my car should be interesting from tomorrow onwards...:scared2:

Heres a pic of my original non mfsw that I took off

And a pic of the replacement mfsw

As you can see the connector plug for the DSG/MF controls are the same on both wheels

The only difference as you can see is that the wheel I got had a different airbag mounting, I believe they changed around 05. I had to make one loom out of the two because the new airbag didn't have a dsg/mf feed.
If you get the correct wheel, check this by undoing the 2 airbag screws and pulling it forward you should have no problems.

Mine has phone preparation but did not come with a multi-function steering wheel??????!!!!!!! Do any of you guys know, if I bought a mfsw would it be an easy swap?

Depends

What age is your car?

Also, you will need to recode your steering wheel and bluetooth module to get the wheel working correctly

hi, i also have bluetooth phone prep but no mfsw. Quite annoying!
its a 2006 a3 and ive been eyeing up some steering wheels on the bay.
So if i buy one it should fit and it just needs reprogrammed??
Thats what im hoping anyway!!!

if you have multifunction or dsg already then yes its just bolt on and clear the airbag fault, however if not youll need to grab the part number of your steering controller and check its compatible with mf otherwise youll need that too. oh and you may also need a slip ring if you go down the flat bottomed road and dont alread have a flat bottomed wheel

I have a fbmfsw dsg wheel for sale, complete in perfect condition.

Think im just going to go for the normal multi function with chrome button surrounds. cant really splash out on FB!
How do i get part number of my steering controller?
Also, asked the question bout my airbag and the guy said it would fit if my serial no. was 8KO??
How do i check that too??
cheers

do you have photos of your old wheel

also as for the part number just go inside the controller in vagcom and it gives the p/n there
