What exactly does uprating the divertor valve do ?

I have searched this topic but got 3 gazillion results.

I am lead to believe the standard D.V. cannot "cope" with remaps long term.
So what happens when it goes ?
how would i notice it ?

And lets say Mine is ok what difference would a better one make ?

I believe the spring sticks when collapsed leaving the valve shut.

The standard valve in your car regulates the turbo power. At idle, your valve is open from vacuum pressure. When you depress the throttle, the diverter valve begins to close. When fully closed, turbo boost is allowed to be delivered to your engine. When you lift the throttle, the boost pressure is released from the valve into your air cleaner box.

I know what the actual valve does, just wasnt sure what an improved one would do.

So if the spring sticks and the diverter valve stays shut how would I know this was happening ?
ie. what behaviour would I see from the car ?
