a3 tdi 54 plate 05..2ltr tdi

just bought an audi 2.0ltr tdi with 170000 miles on and got a few questions.
1...engines seams to shake on tick over ..
2.. when starting car for the first time i get a small what seams like whisstle noise for about 5 secs then goes and doesn't come back again untill car cools down ..
3 engine lights on i had it code read as the temp sensor which i am getting done friday but i tried to find it but don't know where to look.
4. i can say its fantastic on fuel and that there are no outstanding recalls on car...
5,. is booked in friday for water pump, cam belt, temp sensor,oil & filter ,fuel filter, belts.

170,000! you must of got it at a bargain price??

as to engine shakes have your mounts to be checked esp at that millage

whistle? is it a squeak? could be starter motor??? had to diagnose by text!

Mine shakes quite abit as well. I've had it checked out 3 times and on all occasions they've said it's just fine, it's just the nature of the beast that's all. I'd get it checked anyway though as mentioned.

yer was a good price traded me bmw in for it.

engine shacking on tick over being the worst flywhhel was done in 06 so dont think b that....

the shake could be the previous cambeltnot put on properly - the engines run balanced and sould have a torsion of between -2 and +2. When they're putting the cambelt on, make sure they do this and it should cre the rough idle but the temp sendr can also make the car idle rough too.

Could the whistle just be the turbo starting up? Not sureif mine does it :S

timing issue then if it only shakes when warm

tbh mine seems to shake a little on idle more so when it's cold and it's 09....

Mine does the same mostly when hot.

Im going to adjust my torsion value but if the cambelts coming off, get the mechainics to do it.

Front of the engine towards the bottom.

I have a spare one lurking about but they're only around £20ish from Audi.

Coolant will leak out so make sure you have some spare!

And change the seal/washer too as teh one on my prevous car started leaking!
