What have you done to your 8Y today?

I actually got a photo :p
Yep, I knew what you meant, seen plenty of that type on ebay/Aliexpress, but haven't seen any like that in the shape/size to accommodate A3 8Y. I think i'll get the ones i've seen on ebay and give them a look - they show the sticky pad fixings, but the seller said they changed the fixing, but he hadn't changed the pictures, when I asked about the description not mentioning the pics. I do like to use the paddles to be in Dynamic mode, but not having the gearbox hang on S5 when it could be in M7 if not pressing on.

I barely use them.. and if i do its on dynamic, but it is a nice addition to the steering wheel makes it feel sporty

The seller I had been looking at has updated their listing and looks to have an exact copy of yours. For £35.88 I'll give them a punt.

I gave over a pic of the back of my paddles, and the seller confirmed that I have type "A", which are compatible with these extenders, so they're on their way. They were the cheapest I could find on ebay - chances are I'll see them elsewhere for £23 next week.

I paid £33 for my paddles plus £12 for shipping because i live in Greece

Taps are clearly noticeable through shoe, while resting the foot on the pedal. The old car didn't do that [.. ] It's a minor issue, but still a bit annoying..
The first car I owned with cruise control had foot rests both to the right and left of the pedals, to encourage drivers to take their foot off both pedals when cruise control was active. Ever since, I’ve avoided resting my feet on the pedals with cruise control on.

Switched the Bridgestones to Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6s today. Even though I thought I'd keep the Bridgestones, they kept bugging me so I just had to know what happens if I switch them. I haven't driven enough yet to really determine the difference, but my first thoughts compared to Bridgestones are the steering is now a bit sharper, and the ride is a bit harder (not uncomfortable), but also provides more information about the surface. On rough surfaces the Goodyears are definitely louder, but the tone is like more rumble and less howl, which is more tolerable to me. On smooth tarmac the Goodyears become hugely quieter, whilst the Bridgestones weren't as silent compared to noisier surfaces. Overally, the difference doesn't seem to be remarkable. Well, at least now (or soon) I know...

For the info, I kept the original specs on the tyres, so they are 225/45 R17 91Y. I guess there may be bigger difference in bigger wheel sizes. Also I've heard Bridgestone Potenzas are more clearly track-oriented tyres and thus much more uncomfortable than Turanzas, which I had, but both are usually compared to Eagle F1 Asymmetrics. Compared to the same spec Pirelli P7 C2s I had on my previous car, Bridgestones felt unprecise on dry tarmac. Pirellis were slippery on wet, can't say much about the wet grip of the Bridgestones as I didn't drive much on rainy days with them.

Btw the Eagles look much better with their sharpes sides, than the porky Turanzas.

My rear dashcam install finally completed after I seemed to hit a dead end with boot/D pillar trim. Took out a 1 hour subscription to Erwin last night and crammed as much trim fitment downloading into that hour as I could. Armed with the correct instructions, I was able to figure out the issues that'd puzzled me before - a few less conventional trim removals/peel backs to access the rubber trunking that feeds the tailgate electronics, so I could mount it to the rear screen and hide everything behind the upper tailgate trim. The rubber trunking outlet into the tailgate was difficult to access, very few box section holes to retrieve the plug end of the lead and run it along and poke through at the rear screen. Just about managed it. Without a doubt the fiddliest rear cam install I've done to date.

My paddle shift extensions are supposed to arrive tomorrow.

I used E tech metallic silver wheel touch up paint. 'Perfect' colour match I would say. These look like 17s, but mine were different designs I think but also 17s

My paddle shift extensions arrived. I like them, but they could've been a bit nicer than they are - don't see the need for the big "+" and "-" signs, leaving them plain when you have the visibility of that signage on the original shifters.

They're far easier to squeeze when you're turning the steering wheel for an upshift or downshift.

Can you guess what else has changed in the cabin?

Would that be the 12v blank?
don’t see many cars with the storage pack option too.

Good spot. I took it out of my wife's 2015 A1 in 2018 when we got rid of it, stuck it in a cupboard and forgot about it until about 2 months ago.

Storage pack? Is tgat the nets on the back if tge front seats and boot floor? Wouldn't have a clue if that was supposed to be standard on the S3, mine was an incoming "stock" car - nice to have something to make up for the missing ambient lighting and puddle lights (front puddles retrofitted with Audi beam).

Don’t think storage pack is standard on the S3
The pack includes a little drop down tray at the side of the drivers right knee, locking glovebox, nets on the back of the front seats, 12v outlet in the rear and boot, upgraded drinks holders in the front and the luggage net in the boot.

Just ordered a flush fit double USB-C socket to plug into the rear 12v outlet for the kids to keep their tablets charged as we'll be having a trip down from Newcastle to Southampton in about 10 days. Double rear USB-Cs are standard in our Cupra Born.

How do they fix? Sticky pads, worm screws that bite into the original shifters or full replacement that mean taking the steering wheel to bits to fit?

I have found something looking very similar on ebay (not the bottom half), that seemingly fixes with 2 worm screws on each paddle. Just hoping to ensure that they're secure and won't wreck the original shifters.View attachment 267009
I got mine from aliexpress, and is 100% fitment. Good quality too.

That's always the way with this stuff - always somewhere cheaper, after ordering - some you win, some you lose. There are places selling these for £54 a pair. Good price you got there for what looks to be the exact same item.

A small deer helped me put bigger air intakes on my 1 month old S3.

It darted across the M1 just south of Leeds, straight across my path. It all happened so fast, I didn't know what I'd hit until I stopped at the next services 1m away and checked the dashcam footage before pulling off all the loose/spiky bits of the grille.

ACC/Audi pre-sence, parking sensors front are inoperable. New bumper, possible new front OS wing (it looks to be splayed away from bonnet by about 4mm, new grille, new windscreen washer bottle, likely new radiator if they don't cheap out (lots of dented fins, no leaks), bonnet has a few small scratches but doesn't look damaged otherwise, maybe a new headlight or 2, a few undertrays on the front end etc, and anything not obvious.

I'm 350 miles from home will look to get started with quotes on Wednesday when I'm back.

Oh no! What bad luck. At least it’s relatively light damage, not on moose level

How hard was this to do? I would like to have this done to mine, the Chrome trim is my main dislike of the S Line trim
Really easy, I’m not the best with “DIY”. Just masked up the main areas for over spray, then used plastidip. It’s a peelable paint. So it’s easily reversible

Really bad luck! Still, could have been a lot worse! Hope you sort out the repairs fast and that your insurance will pay up.

Ouch, not nice.
I had similar accident now quite a long while ago. The road side was very steep and dark, where the animal just sprang right in front of my way. Could do nothing else but hit the brakes and wait the impact. It wasn't very hard hit and the damage seemed to be on the minor side, and I was able to continue without much trouble. But when I got the car repaired, the list of fixed or replaced parts was unbelievably long, there were so much hidden damage. The insurance covered all that, but the invoice was quite a sight.

By window trims you mean the perimeter rubber (mine is rubber on basic a3 i dont know about yours) around the windows? And if thats the case you sealed the other parts and just spray with plasti dip ?

Pressed the drive select button (thought this does nothing on 30TFSIs) but it could alter the steering weight. (Comfort, balanced, dynamic). Comfort is obviously the lightest, but I didn't see much difference between dynanamic and Balanced? Is the former the one where it alters the wheel turn to lock ratio?

The steering ratio alters only if you have the optional progressive steering. Otherwise drive select affects just the steering weight.

Ouch, hope you're insured.

Hit a deer in France in the wife's Mazda, it would have to have been the *one* time we forgot to get the upgrade to fully comp for European travel (most insurers only offer legal minimum outside the UK, check carefully, they are usually very vague about it as well). Still haven't found time to sort it out :(

Yep, fully insured, it happened on a UK road. It will go down as a "fault" claim. I have protected NCD, so £500 excess to pay, likely a £5k repair:-

New bumper, new grille, new parking sensors, new ACC/Pre-sense sensor, new NS headlight, new washer bottle and headlight washers, likely bonnet respray (2 small paint deep gouges at front of bonnet from impact shrapnel), new radiator (not leaking, heavily dented), new trim piece around bonnet release lever, new front NS undertrays and wheel arch liner, and anything else they discover on stripdown.

Presumably new ACC/Presense sensor requires wheel alignment check before recalibration (that used to be the case).

The galling thing is, I never go that way south - when the A1(M) splits to join the top of the M1 or continue as the A1(M), I always stay on the A1(M) and join the M1 via the M18 down near Doncaster. Not this time.

The car's been appraised by 1 of 2 garages I'd choose, the other can fit me in next Tues. They are both good, I'd slightly favour the second given prior experience of the 2 (used both, finished job great in both, but first forgot to hook up the headlight washer jets on my 2015 Golf R after a bumper respray 5 years ago and had to refit), but recent trust pilot reviews aren't as good as they were for the 2nd place.

Could be an issue with the window regulator or the control module. I'd avoid lowering it until you have had a mechanic look into it.

Looks like my S3 has started post Deer repairs, should have it back in 2 weeks time. I have an absolute shed of a courtesy car in the meantime Hyundai i20 - makes a Ford Fiesta look like a Rolls Royce in comparison.

I have brought it back to Audi, they took out the door card and did some lubrication inside, and motor seemed to be working fine. Now no more whining noise.

Brought it to the dealer for the first time because of a fault light.

Once it's given me engine and start system fault messages, which were cleared by reboot. Later it gave some kind of safety mechanism fault message, that kept coming again on every start since it first came up. I had to wait over a week to get a free slot to get it checked, luckily I don't live too far from the dealer. They said there was an error code of one indication about some seat airbag, but there was nothing wrong when they inspected it. The engine fault light hadn't even left an error code. So no real defects, just some oversensitive indicators I guess... I just hope those won't keep coming up, it will be very frustrating to pay the dealer for checking non-existent errors after the warranty's expired.

Only had the car for 7 weeks and my wife was driving the other day and had a small incident with a skip. Could have been worse but still a £380 cost to fix ‍‍:weary:

Hoping to get my S3 back from the repairers today. Late on Tues I was told they had 5 hours work left, and we're doing about 3 hours a day on it. I did a bit of Audi app stalking yesterday to see tge 2 warning signs disappear (like washer fluid - the impact destroyed bottle must've been filled up following replacement), and the Audi Presense sensor no longer throwing up a fault, so that must now be replaced and working properly. The doors, windows and bonnet were up and down multiple times yesterday, so hoping work is complete and just awaiting final QC checks today.
