Remember it's torque that kills clutches.

Stock clutch will just about manage Stg1 or 310bhp/300lbs torque,but it's living on borrowed time above that.

The Sachs or Loba organics are good for around 400-440lbs,and are very robust if you avoid drag starts and bed them in properly.

Above that,you need an SMF setup and something like a Spec or Southbend clutch.

Overtaking a large lorry, my std 2.0TFSi quattro was easily on the tail of a Mk5 R32 golf with a loud exhaust. He shot off at serious ridiculous speed on a windy B road, suspension straining to take a blind left hander.
Needless to say, I keep my cool and stuck to a sensible legal speed.
I've seen horrific accidents on this type of road involving horses, cyclists and people.

I bet in the wet you'd have kept wiping the M3 around and out of roundabouts and standing starts.

My first quattro and I love it..:)

Spray pattern refers to the injector fuel spray pattern,and the S3's injectors naturally give the best dispersal for an S3,whereas the RS4 injectors that you need above 440bhp are not as well optimised for the S3,but do allow much more fuel flow.

FMIC......front mounted intercooler......the S3 has one,but an uprated one only really comes into it's own on cars with big turbo kits,as the stock version is pretty decent.
 
Thanks for explaining the jargon & also re the clutch, I always thought it was risky running anything about a stage 1 on a stock clutch!
 
What's the 0-60 on the S1 remap?

If the M3 is 4.4sec as standard then those extra 35-40bhp from the S1 map are going to have to find you over a second for it to be a competitive match up
 
Im not sure tbh pal, I've said the same to my mate but I'm gonna test it on mine. I suppose every car is gonna be slightly different & depends on the driver right. I checked the M3's 0-62mph after I beat it from the lights but its rapid :)

Sorry to hijack guys, but an uprated FMIC is next on my list of purchases and you've named two of the most popular choices - the Pro Alloy and the Forge Twintercooler.

I get all of my mods supplied and fitted by AMD in Essex, and they advised me to get this - the Airtec FMIC:

Have any of you guys heard of the Airtec FMIC, and if so, what are you thoughts?

One thing I have noticed is that all replacement FMIC's seem to cost around about the same, which tends to suggest there might not be that much of a difference from one FMIC to another...

I for one can swear by airtec, had the Matt black fmic on my mk2 focus ST and the pro alloy intercooler for my mk2 RS. Both items were really good quality, welds were smooth and they are finished to a really high standard. Both fit like an oem part and they even outperformed the figures they gave on the website in terms of inlet temps. Very impressed with their stuff.

Just read that back and I sound like an airtec rep or something!
 
i bet the S3 is easier for the average joe to get book figures more consistently, i bet the M3 is a bit trickier. unless of course it has launch control.
i've been in an E92 M3 and i thought it was mental quick top end, it didnt seem to stop.
 
I can vouch for that, it was the "top end" where it came into its own & past me!!

A decent start will see a E92 M3 pulling around 12 second 1/4 mile, if they're really good they might just get under 12.
A stock S3 will be around 14 secs, a strong S3 with a remap around 13 secs.

This S3 (apparently "The fastest Audi S3 TFSi in the world") pulled a 11.5 sec 1/4 mile

So there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that the M3 driver was the better man in that he obviously backed off being as you were both on a public road.

Hi quinnii, thanks for feedback - much appreciated.

Funnily enough, I had seen that the Airtec FMIC was pretty popular with the Ford's, and in particular the mk2 Focus RS - I just hadn't heard it mentioned much on here. It's good to know it's a good bit of kit, and I'll hopefully be getting mine fitted in the very near future...
 
I just love when people compare S3's against M3 E92:haha:
I hope you know the price differences about these two cars and further
costs of tuning,maintenance.....so the S3 is getting my vote every day and all day long!!!

The E92 M3 is a fair bit faster than even a tweaked S3, absolutely no doubt about that.

So the only logical conclusion is that either the driver fluffed the start and each consecutive gear change, or he simply wasn't trying.

i slaughtered a m3 the other day... it was hilarious... after work a few days ago on a 50mph dual carriage way.. i merged... and this dimwit was coming at 80+ so the merge was difficult as he put his foot down and I had to swerve before I merged... so the guy must have been off his head... started effing and blindin at me... trying to swerve in me.. cut me.. somehow get infront of me and brake hard... each time... my short and sharp 0-60 just destroyed him and i managed to get ahead so the psycho was caught up in traffic... he even drove on chevrons at another merge and nearly went into a bridge... i kept my cool... and i love this car because it let me get away from mr schizo. viva la audi!!

i think he was just a sick little perv... he kept checking me out while he was angry... may be he just wanted my number the missus said.. so she shouted "he's mine fk off!" ahaha

as for the VXR... don't get me started.. I came across a VXR rudey a month ago... pulled up alongside.. and he shouted it wasnt a fair fight.. he wanted a fair fight?! lol
