I am curious to know what you guys owned before purchasing an S3 and maybe compare the two cars for the hell of it.

All in my sig. Not got the s3 yet so can't really compare.

My car history:

Golf MK6 GTI DSG
Golf MK5 R32 Manual
Golf MK5 GT TDI Manual
Ford Focus 1.8 TDCI Manual
Ford Fiesta 1.25 Zetec Manual

I had a 184 quattro S-Tronic, S -Line Hatchback! I thought it was the dogs, seems very boring now in comparison to the S3

my car history:

Banana yellow 1985 Mini city E
Red 1994 Peugeot 106 mardi gras
Red metalic 1992 Renault 5 GT Turbo
Solid Black 1992 VW Golf gti 16v (mk3)
Cherry red 2002 Renault Clio sport 172 (brand new)
Titan Silver 1998 BMW m3 coupe (E36)
Blue metallic 2002 Ford mondeo st220
Black metallic 2004 Vauxhall Zafira Gsi (a)
Arden blue 2010 Vauxhall Astra Vxr (h) (brand new)
Glacier white 2015 Audi S3 sb (8V) (brand new)

Also got a totally original/standard left hand drive 1988 VW Golf Cabrio 1.8 mk1 sat in my garage, been restoring it for 10 years now :) and the mrs has a 2006 vw polo 1.2.

Tried to remember all the model years (might be 1 or 2 wrong as I struggled to remember), brought back some great memories :)

Oh No!
It wasn't really?
Oh yes it was!
You totally sure?
Of course I am!
Then it had to be a GOLF :keule:

Dont want to list mine....54 cars in 27 years.....

Last 5 have been....

RR Evoque
BMW M135i
New shape Seat Leon FR
Golf mk6 GT TDI
VW Scirocco R

M135i was best comparison to the S3......lovely sounding straight six engine, amazing 8 speed box, very slightly more power but ugly as f3ck!!

Last car was a Mitsubishi Evo X FQ330 SST.

Handling on the S3 is nowhere near as good, but then I never expected it to be. Power output about the same. Main advantage of the S3 is that it's more comfortable than the Evo, you can see through the rear window (no big spoiler across the back), the S-Tronic is far superior to the SST, much much better petrol consumption, and it has a useable boot. Gone is the fun factor and presence, but hey I can live with that.

M235i
Golf r32
E46 330ci

Prelude 2.2 vti
Fiesta rs turbo
E36 318is
Civic 1.6 vtec
Clio 1.1

70 miles in the s3. My first automatic and to be honest really like it. Atm im under 4 k revs so should be more enjoyable after the engine break in. First five door aswell so love the practicality. i find the suspension awesome as is the softest car ive had in a while. Loving it so far

Had a first generation 1.4 TFSI 6-speed manual A1 before the S3. Loved it. Did exactly what it was bought for and was very comfortable, surprisingly quick off the mark and very good on the MPG.

Obviously in comparison to the S3 2.0 TFSI (S-Tronic) its the inferior car, but it was a stunning car for the money and if you wanted a good low MPG and great looking/handling car, wouldn't choose anything else myself. Done around 14.5K in this S3 so far, still surprises me every now and again.

Really enjoyed the A1, got a friend picking up an S1 in a couple months, anxious to get a look at that when its delivered!

lots of Hondas and a Toyota, still have a 348 spider, and used to have an SVT Mustang Conv.

S3 is by far the best highway car, especially if any rain around. I'm a fan of the dual-clutch setup. But I'd say the Honda Fit (aka: Jazz) was a better inner city car.

Acura RSX Type S (High revving and flickable)
Ford Probe GT (the only other turbo I've owned. Weird looking but fast)
Nissan Sentra (an awful car but I was poor)
Mercury Capri 2600 V6
Plymouth Valiant

I dream of owning one of these. Financially it's very possible but my wife says that it will be an instant divorce if I bought on. Too boy racerish apparently... Kill joy!

My last 9 yrs history has been:

64 plate Audi Q3 S-Line plus 177 2.0Tdi
62 plate Audi A4 Black Edition 140 2.0Tdi
09 plate Audi A3 S-Line 140 2.0Tdi 3 dr
07 plate Audi A3 S-Line 140 2.0Tdi 3 dr
1995 Subaru Impreza Sti 300Bhp

I do like my Audi's lol

Ok here goes, cars since I was 18.

Blue Vauxhall Nova 1.4 SR (75BHP)
Black Peugeot 106 Rallye (100BHP)
Gold Peugeot 106 GTI (120BHP)
Yellow Honda Civic Jordan (160BHP)
Black Honda Accord 1.8 Sport (When we had the twins) (134BHP)
Yellow Seat Leon Cupra (180BHP)
Ibis White 8P Audi S3 (261BHP)
Ibis White 8P Audi S3 Facelift (261BHP)
Glacier White 8V Audi S3 (296BHP)
*Coming Soon* Glacier White 8V Audi RS3 ( Subject to Driving One ) (362BHP)

Love my S3's however my all time favourite is still the Jordan. It was lowered, pure black window tint (Before the laws) 17 inch anthracite alloys. I body colour coded various Chrome elements also. The scream of the vtec was awesome. Sadly I wrote it off.

Too many to list in fifty years driving......................if I could remember them.
Last car was an 8V 184 A3 TDi. Which was a mistake.

......listen to your wife mate, those Evo's are sooooooo UGLY!!! (can't believe I ever considered one!)

Previous motors for me (really boring lineup this one) ;)

Astra GTE Mk 1 - owned at age 21, felt like a god and pretty much the only car in this list that isn't cr*p!
Corsa 1.2 - money was tight (now married!) - decent runaround to be honest
Mercedes A Class - inherited. Sorry to say, horrible! Unreliable and v.expensive to run
Rav-4 - superb family motor! Owned from new 10 years. Cost me a few tyres/servicing. Awesome.

....................several others but can't be bothered to list...........oh wait, my first car Mini 1100 special (great fun, so many good times). How the hell did I forget that!!

Won't bother comparing with S3 for obvious reasons, but needless to say I'm itching to get behind the wheel!! :racer:

Ok, here goes from Mums car to date:

Renault 5 1.0 TC followed by a leap in performance to a Peugeot 106 1.1

First sales job, 3 Renaults (2 x 21 and a Laguna)

1.8T 8L Audi A3

Saab 9-3 SS 2.0t

Audi A3 3.2 8P DSG

BMW E60 M5 V10

VW Golf mk 5 R32

BMW F10 535i active hybrid (found out a week later wife was pregnant and due to minute boot space it had to go)

Emergency baby carry all car - Lexus RX 400h

Arriving soon, S3 5dr DSG

Best, if you discount the M5 that averaged around 12 mpg, and dropped its clutch 7 months into ownership (£3k) was actually the 1.8T A3, as it was my first own car choice, as we moved away from company car lists and into personal choice......

Worst, has to be the Lexus, don't get me wrong - it does all I ask of it, and holds every piece of baby clobber imaginable, and is massively well equipped, but that CVT sucks the soul from me!!!

Just praying the S3 can hold a travel system if we are "blessed" with jr no#2!

Too many to mention .. just a few pictures of recent ones though ...

Scooby WRX with PPP:

Forester STi, Litchfield remap:

8P S3:

JCW Mini number one:

RS60 Spyder - should have kept this one ..

X5 3.0SD:

JCW Mini, buckets, Harmon Kardon etc:

Changed it for a classic, Audi TT - remap+Bilstein coilovers:

The plan was to keep a hold of the TT, was quick, bit hard suspension wise with the coilovers though .. but got itchy feet/bored again ... not sure if I'll ever find a car I want to keep more than 2 years ..

Not an s3 owner but

2001 Clio 1.2 (William)
1999 Saxo vtr (Victor)
1999 Golf 1.6 (Derek)
2004 Smart car (had it 4 days and went bang)
2012 DS3 1.6 (Shamu)
2014 A3 2.0 (Alvin)

July 2009 to November 2010 - Audi TT TDI :- Nice car, good economy, soon got bored of the diesel engine, needing something quicker - 8/10
November 2010 to July 2011 - Audi TTRS (Manual) :- Great car, very quick, loved everything about it - 9/10
July 2011 to April 2013 - Audi TTRS (S-Tronic) :- Great car, exceptionally quick, loved everything about it, my most favourite car to date -10/10
Sept 2012 to April 2013 - Audi A1 :- Great little car, chuckable, great on fuel economy, only downside was not great room in back for kiddies - 9/10
April 2013 to October 2013 - Audi A4 :- Sold my A1 to step into this, hated it, was more spacious but not my cup of tea - 5/10
April 2013 to October 2013 - BMW M5 (F10) :- Spent most of its time in the garage with a blown engine, dodgy gearbox, no traction, just didn't gel with it. 6/10
October 2013 to June 2014 - Audi Q5 :- Nice family car, great for the kids, not particularly quick, guzzled fuel - 7/10
June 2014 to April 2015 - Audi S3 :- Nice little car, quick, decent fuel economy but a little boring and lacking something I can't put my finger on, did not like the 2x twin tailpipes, fake engine/exhaust noise or rock hard suspension, trying too hard I think. In addition, with the mega cheap Golf R lease deals, I could have had the Golf R at not far off half the cost of the S3 in monthly payment terms, spoiled ownership a bit knowing there was a better near identical package at half the cost - 7/10
May 2015 onwards - Audi A3 :- Pick it up tomorrow, of course, will be similar to S3 but with a slower TDI engine, nowhere near as fast but much better running/commuting costs - 7-8/10 I think.
Sept 2015 onwards - Audi RS6 :- Animal, no other words. The ultimate family wagon - I'm sure this will get a 10/10, the couple of test drives I had, I was mighty impressed.

All cars were new orders bar TTRS (S-tronic) S3 and A3 which were/are ex demo's.

The Audi finance department must love me, but that's it for me, no more new cars for the next 3 years. I will have both an economical A3 and a super quick RS6, there should be no need to replace either from now on in until the terms are finished. Give my bank balance a break now:lmfao:

Before Audi ownership, I had a Seat Leon Cupra R, Evo 6, Impreza P1, Impreza, MG ZR160 and a Rover 25  (In my defence at that last one, was a first car as a 19yr old)
