Cold start rattle - 1.4 TFSI

Posted about this before but now have a sound clip to go with it.

Can anyone who's had the same problem tell me what was the cure?

It could be either timing chain tensioner or camshaft adjuster/solenoid as far as I can see.

For anyone interested, I dropped the car off to my local specialist who confirmed it is the camshaft adjuster causing the noise. I opted to replace that along with the chain, tensioner, guide rails etc. Final bill came to £1200 which is a lot, but still a lot cheaper than anyone else out there. Audi charges £1700 just to replace the chain alone! With the camshaft adjuster it comes to around £2500.

Had a listen this morning and the rattle is now completely gone. There is still the startup noise of the cat preheating process which some people could probably confuse with chain issues.

Now to see if I can get some of the money back from Audi!
