I’ve not been lurking on here for long but it seems a friendly place and especially compared to the BMW forum I used to look at!

A few weeks back I started looking at options for my next car and then a couple of weeks ago I decided to pop into my local Audi dealer to see if they had an S3 to look at. They did, a black edition in Vegas Yellow. It was lovely and after a test drive of another S3 a deal was done. All a bit quick but very exciting. Picked it up on the 2nd September and I’ve had a good bit of driving this week and so far it’s been fantastic.

The car the S3 replaces was a 66 plate M3, the best car I have ever had but I felt that it just could not be used properly or really appreciated with me driving or on our roads. It was also bigger than the usual size cars I have and I’m really happy to be in the S3 which is my first Audi. I also have no regrets about having the M3 for a year as it was something that had to be done!

The one thing I didn’t realise is that my S3 has no rear parking sensors and I’m not sure whether to look into getting them fitted. I have no real problem parking but I was parking the other day as normal and while reversing I was just naturally waiting for the beeps. I realised before I got too close to the car behind but it was strange as all my cars for the last few years have come with rear parking sensors! Any advise on where to go if I did want to get them fitted would be much appreciated?

Cheers, John

Audi will fit audio parking sensors for a price.
If you're handy and confident - I fitted a set of "UFO" type sensors (£24 from Amazon) to my wife's Fiesta. Fed from a by-pass relay as I was also fitting a towbar. Factory look with no protruding flange, you spray the sensors body colour before fitting. They've been on for six months and work perfectly. (selecting reverse doesn't turn the radio down like the oem Audi sensors though.

Site won't post the link but if you search "UFO parking sensors" in Amazon it finds them.

Swindon Audi quoted me £250 I think to have rears fitted, I didn't bother in the end as just got used to it. I know there are popes who frequent this site which will be able to help.

I almost went for vegas but the other half was hugely against it.

Out of interest how are you finding the S3 having come from an M3? I know not comparable but does it feel like much of a step back?

Nice car !! I still can't get over that rear sensors aren't standard, I had these guys fit OEM sensors on my RS TT a few years ago they did an excellent job using OEM parts

Hi and welcome to the forums.

That's strange rear parking sensors became standard across the A3 range back in April when the price went up by £400:

My S3 has rear sensors as standard, you just pay £300 bangers for the fronts

Mine was one of the earlier FL S3's, delivered in November last year, and I ordered Parking System Plus but I can't recall if the rears were standard.

On the original facelift (MY17) I think only the SE Technik model had them as standard, for all other models it was an option included in the Comfort & Sound Pack.

They became standard on all models with the MY18.

Great looking motor bud. Enjoy.:grinning:
Have you thought about an independent Audi specialist for the sensors ?
Also, security. Don't let the scum of society spoil the fun you will no-doubt be having in shed-loads.

Thanks for the info but there's not much hope of me being capable of fitting them!

I'm finding the S3 easier to drive and I don't have to worry about spinning rear wheels when putting my foot down. I can notice the difference when you put your down on a long stretch of road, but not massive for how and where I drive and the S3 really picks up speed quickly. Really enjoying it so far.
