Im after new set of discs and pads for my s line black edition, thinking of going EBC drilled and grooved and also their pads not sure which many colours is there difference between them or should I get genuine audi discs and pads ?

Do you drive the car on the track of frequently hammer it around, then yeah, grooved EBC disks makes sense, but otherwise stick with oem. Avoid drilled disks - no benefit to it.

Put it like this, police pursuit drivers receive specialist training such that they can drive a high performance car around motorways and A roads at high speed, across a whole county, for hours and they fit standard discs and pads to their cars. :busted cop:

That's because they have no say in the matter. Nothing sucks more than coming up to a corner on some lovely Welsh country road and having your brakes fade on you after a brisk hoon down one of the hills.

Do brightly coloured (and very expensive) brake pads help you navigate the Tesco roundabout better or help you on the school run? :haha:

SO its no point then they wont last longer ? Better braking ??? Than genuine ?

For people who do that, it is pointless to buy anything other than OEM, yes... But a 6piston uprated caliper, with larger pads and larger disk diameter will be safer, stop better for much longer than OEM during a hard drive on a B road or at a track than OEM setup will do.

Uprated disks alone are a bit pointless, but a combination of disks, pads with a better compound that deals with running at higher temperatures is a worthwhile upgrade for people that do need it. I understand that not everyone understands what tuning is about or cares, so you are entitled to your opinion, just please don't hog the middle lane eh?

Discs with holes in them were developed some years ago for vented discs. This was because the bonding material used in older brake pads gave off a significant amount of gases when they became heated and the holes helped these gases escape. Brake pad technology has now much improved. On cars today, the holes are largely for "sporty appearance" purposes. Technically, if discs have holes there is actually slightly less brake pad in contact with disc metal and so braking power is reduced very slightly. Are EBC pads better than premium OE type pads? Many will claim they are although I have seen "EBC red stuff" pads erupt, crack and crumble with heat under track use. The "fading" mentioned above is just as likely to have been caused by the standard DOT 4 brake fluid failing as opposed to the pads. Do EBC pads produce less messy dark dust on alloy wheels - yes they probably do.

If you are going to install powerful calipers and are likely to brake hard from speeds of 100 MPH to say 40 MPH, continually over a short circuit style run, with little chance of air cooling the brakes, then it's no good sticking in EBC brakes designed for road use. You will need racing pads which can take the heat, but which will provide poorer braking when cold and which will create much noise.

I really like the look of the ebc discs and I do push the car sometimes, as Im coming from an ST lol

EBC discs are fine, pads can be quite a personal preference. My S3 with 360bhp has std calipers and the previous owner fitted EBC discs and Greenstuff pads just before I bought - perfectly up to the job and stops very well. Probably won't be my pad choice when I replace them but based on the last 2000 miles I will leave them on the car. For really hard use I would go for Mintex F4R or in extreme F6R or DS2500/DS3000 from Ferodo but that is based on tarmac rallying which is about as hard on brakes as you get.

That is more helpful what u reckon are best for mine I reckon I will go and get ebc
