Hi,

New here so not sure if this is the right area for this question.

Recently I have decided to retrofit Auto Lights to my A3 8V as it came with the standard switch (8V0 941 531 AG).

I purchased a brand new rain/light and humidity sensor which i installed (8U095559D) and is working normally, my wipers are coming on when the stalk is pushed forward one and it rains, and also stops when it doesn't.

The issue i am having is with the Auto Light Switch i have purchased (8V0 941 531 Q), when it is installed, the auto lights do not work and after a few seconds an error message pops up saying "Vehicle Lights: Malfunction!"

Can anyone advise to why this is? I'm thinking i may need to do a bit of coding with VCDS and if this is the case does.... can anyone post information on what to activate.

I've attached some pictures below.

Thanks

Wrong sensor. Needs to be B or C as D is not actually a light sensor, its just a humidity and Rain Sensor.

Thank you for letting me know. The advert on eBay said it was a "Rain, Light and Humidity Sensor" so i'll be returning it to them asap.

Does it make any difference whether to purchase a B or C .. i'm guessing C is newer?

Thanks for your help

B is for PFL vehicles, ie yours and C is for facelift. You can use either.

Edit: Make sure you also install a gel pad else you will have further issues. Parts details for reference:

*the above data is VIN specific to a facelift car.

Hi Alix,

Ordered the C sensor and fitted it today, am still getting the Lights Malfunction error message, any ideas?

Sensor is working as it has been raining today. Switch however is not allowing to me to adjust brightness of the display whereas it did before

Thanks

I would need more information about your vehicle. Please pm me with your vehicles VIN number and the part numbers of the bits you have fitted + coding steps completed. I will then take a look and see what can be done.

hi DJ Alix what do you think the problem could be.
I'm having the same issue when I switch to auto it shows Malfunction.

I've got a A3 8V 2013 s line
bought C version of the sensor wipers work fine just the lights not auto

Also did some coding before and I got the automatic on my mmi but does nothing

@DJAlix OK,, so switch ordered, thought I'd double check sensor, this is what I've got.
If I'm reading this all right, then that sensor is humidity only?
I need same part number but with B or C after it??

B if you have a pre-facelift car

@DJAlix
Just add the new one in (the 8U0955559) but still have the fault code (see photo)
Hold on, just gonna learn a new language so I can work out what that says… might be a while.

edit: also, you need a B sensor.

Got a diagnostic scan of the vehicle with this a sensor fitted?
You mean you or me?
When you need from me than i need to make a new one. The pdf here is with the old old version sensor
Does the automatic switch has to do somthing with it, because i have a same as Ellitiot at the beginning (see his photo) and the fog lights in the front stil not working.
And when i chech the system i can read out a switch without fog light (it say not support)

No Idea what an 8UD 955 559 B is hardware or software wise. Should be 8U….

Looks like your errors are due to one or a combination of:

1) incorrect sensor hardware / firmware
2) incorrect light switch
3) incorrect coding

Can you check for me what kind (code) light swich i need?
Think the Q version is not OK for my car (looking at internet it say A3 8V1 models), think i need the AJ model (A3 8VA)
But need one with Fog light front and back, justible light knop, justible dashboard light knop and sure the auto mode (see front side from Elliots model), but his model is a AG so i cannot find the right one now :-(
So 8V0 941 531 AJ or AG model?

Please note the 8UD i change it yesterday evening for the 8U0 955 559.
But the list you get (told you) is from before i change the sensor, i need to make a new list with this 'new' sensor
Still stay if i have the right model switch ;-)

At this point I think you need to collect all your current information and post it here if you want help. Having to guess at what’s been done is not really gonna work.

1) scan your car, clear the errors, cycle ignition and scan again, post scan here.
2) detail your coding steps

This will make life easier.

@DJAlix
The B / B sensor is in place, but now need the right code for it (i see both B's on the scan)
Because the first setting 02005D is not working we get 3 fault code's (and this was the setting for the 8UD model my first)
The code 00006C gif me just 1 fault code, saying he cannot communcate with the sensor, and still have the fault code and symbol in the FIS display
So i'm almost there but just a small adjust ment but what?

3BREDA = with code 02005D 3 faults
BREDA = with code 00006C 1 fault

And with both headlight swicht on auto position i still get in FIS a fault (see my early photo in dutch)

Really sorry but I cannot help as i only speak English and Greek.

I need to see a full and unedited auto scan, in English, in order to see what’s going on if you would like assistance.

RLHS coding = xx006C and anything else is incorrect.

*xx = feature coding, example motorway lights, rain lights and auto rain closing.
