Just curious if any Vorsprung owners have had their wheels refurbished back to factory.

How did they do the transfers?

Transfers are available online, they are applied then lacquered over.....

I would imagine that if they're damaged you might as well refurb all four rather than try to get one fixed to factory. Probably the same price as well, and definitely cheaper than buying a new wheel...

Be easier just to go all black than those stupid graphics, worst idea Audi have had.

Carbon black finish is far better for me. That’s the route I’ll go if I ever need them refurbing. Trying my best not to though!

That's the trouble, I've never liked black wheels. The 8y ones are nice, shame to hide to style in dull black.

Not a massive fan of black wheels generally, I think they just look a little lost in pictures and things. I've been looking at various colours but I really don't know what I would want to commit to with Daytona Grey paint is the problem.

Same here, used to love the Silver Pretoria on my white Golf R, my RS3 is Tango red with black trim/mirrors etc, I think black is the only wheel colour, still not fussed on black wheels though...................

I took out the wheel repair cover when I got my Vorsprung nearly a year ago. A couple of weeks back I had a letter saying they could no longer offer this and I would be refunded as they weren’t confident in being able to repair the wheel because of the different colours. Hadn’t used it.

Reading between the lines that means they have had to supply a couple of new wheels as the repair man has not been able to effect a decent repair.

WTF were Audi thinking when they designed them?

Yeah, they seem like a ridiculous design. Don't hate them like I thought I would, but if one took a knock I'd definitely refurb all of them to a different colour. Still can't come up with anything really decent colour-wise though is my problem...

I must be in the minority but I think the wheels are ok. Have seen them for real on a VS SB.
Agree, they would be a nightmare if they got kerbed. Interesting to hear, that you can’t get wheel insurance for them. Unsure what I would do if it happened to me once I get my car. Possibly get them powder coated gloss black.

Yes they will do, if I should be unlucky to kerb them then good opportunity to do all without the stripes.

It is what I have done to every diamond cut wheel I have had. Local place does a really good job of easing the edges so the laquer doesn't fail. Looks tidier, easier to clean and repair.

Daytona is

The new RS6 has an option for Neodynium gold looks great with Daytona. Much better than black. Bur it's a bold switch.

RADER International in Manchester can do the repair back to factory

Seen one they had done a full repair on and I had a buckled rim repaired by them.

I actually like the satin silver look on grey, but that might just be because it was a 911 GT3.

Dream car the GT3. 9000rpm of orgasmness.
Having driven the GT3 Touring on my YouTube channel I have to say that it feels slow compared to even an RS3. Not denying it’s a pure sports car but unless you’re at the top of the limited it lacks oomph. I had real issues over taking a van in it at 60 because there just isn‘t the torque.

Oh, interesting…

Good job I can’t afford one then!

I had a similar experience going from a TTRS to a V8 R8, first test drive in one and the sales girl said 'you can put your foot down now thats the end of the camera's' she then followed it with 'Aren't they quick'..........................'.Er, no' I said , 'If I was in my TTRS I would be just a spec in the distance now'
Massive difference between a Turbo charged power delivery and a normlly aspirated one (with the emphasis on Different)

Anyone in the London are able to refurbish the VS alloys? (I haven’t done any damage to them) but I bought alloy and wheel insurance from ALA as all those pot holes concern me but should I curb a wheel they cover £150 for repairs on each alloy… but where could they be done? Where can you get the print design?

would have thought the insurance company would know people, maybe send a mobile wheel furbishing specialist to your home or place of work.

It is the print design that is the question here - they would need the print to restore it. And I don't know where you can get that except maybe from Audi dealers.

Audi dealers will outsource it somewhere. I had a tiny bit of white rot setting in on my 8v on one wheel. The only place that could refurb with the Audi sport logo was the wheel specialist. I know they’re a franchise so not sure if that means everywhere specialist will be able to but I’d imagine it’s the same technique. They were also the only people that could refurb my FK8 Type R wheel, with the ride stripe around the rim. However I know Honda dealers used to sell alloy wheel cover and had to stop because of the lack of people who could refurb them, could be a similar story. Personally if I curb them I’ll be getting them done satin black.

appreciate what you are saying. Audi didn’t offer me wheel insurance due to the VS wheels. Surprised you got wheel insurance. Is the company aware of these odd design alloys. I am concerned too if I kerb them.

No, they have not asked for any information about the design of the wheels however if they couldn't be repaired then it says they will pay me the £150 which whilst not what I want means I do have something back from the insurance. However, I am not limited to where I get them repaired. That is the point if I can find a place to fix them then it isn't an issue (also worth noting that if the wheel was curbed but the graphic not damaged that would not be a problem).

In some cases when kerbed wheels are repaired, the wheels are dipped in acid to have a good base for the new paint and lacquer, therefore the existing graphics may be etched away.

My experience: scraped a 2cm mark on the edge of the rim, exposing the Al but not damaging it. My Audi wkshp in Inverness would not touch the repair, " Audi do not repair wheels" was the response, even for such a minor job. I was quoted £1450 for a new wheel, this was 2.5 years ago on my previous RSQ3 Sport Edition, (21"), oooh. I went to a local wheel repairer who did a magnificent job, £90 and he saved the etched Audi Sport around the valve area, the all black wheel was easy to match. When time came I traded the car in at Highland Audi for another RSQ3, no-one was any the wiser. It's black all the way for me, and again I chose Daytona Grey, imo it goes really well with the black wheels.

The two wheel repairers by me would not attempt to replicate the Vorsprung wheel decals.

Neither will do a partial wheel repair to just the damaged area, for that you will need the man in a van (also to be seen at weekly vists to VW/Audi/BMW garages)

Generally wheel repairers have a couple of approaches to wheel repairs, the wheel goes into either an automatic sand blaster, or an acid bath (paint stripper), they then go through the process of powder coating to whatever colour you desire.

If they are ‘diamond cut, they are initially powder coated, then the face is diamond cut (on a lathe basically) followed by a powder coat of lacquer.

For the Vorsprung wheel they would need to go to a decal manufacturer (some of the car wrapping outfits will also have the required equipment) and get the decals colour matched and cut out, the wheel would then be coated black, the decals applied (hopefully correctly) and the decals then lacquered over.

I dare say there will be a few companies that will go the extra mile to do this, you just need to find them :)
