1.8TFSI Wastegate Rattle

Hi everyone,

It’s been my life long wish to fix the damn rattle on my 8V A3. I’ve scoured just about every forum I can on this topic and haven’t had any luck. I’ve bought a few different clips but it seems my turbo is just a bit different so the clips don’t stay in place.

I have a 2014 Audi A3 8V Ambition Sedan 1.8TFSI Quattro MY15. Attached is a pic of where the clip would go.

I’ve tried the clips 04E145220 and 06J145220A. 04E does the job but I’ve been through about 3/4 now as they’ll just come off mid drive.

If anyone has any advise or info, I will be forever grateful!

The Audi clip was designed for the 1.4.

IIRC the 1.8 and 2.0 modification was a different sized wastegate actuator or valve cap.

Can’t comment about 3rd party clips.

In the UK there was a campaign to adjust the wastegate valve cap. I don’t know about Australia though.

The fix didn’t fix it properly, only lessened it.

I’m not aware of a proper fix for pre-facelift cars, but it was engineered out in the facelift.
