B7 general discussion/chat thread.

There are uprated ones that come up for sale used occasionally that just replace the OE ones on each side, just a bit bigger , not massive but if you added the total increase it is worthwhile.
they just retro fit with existing fittings.
Yep, almost bought some last year for the Mk5 GTI as that was an easy stage 1 when I bought it, possibly more and the hoses were sooo soft, it was ridiculous. But sold it for the A3 insted. On the hunt now.

Needed some instant gasket for the sump cover, so popped into my local car motor factor that I purchased the Apec drive shafts from, the guy handed me the sealant and then £270 in cash, that's your refund from Apec he said with a smile, have the sealant on the house, I was a bit gobsmacked for a moment or two then thanked him . :yahoo:

A good day indeedy.:thumbs up:
That wouldn't happen if bought online. Good man.

I thought that would be the case, but it these straitened times this will be the first car in a long time that I will not be spending money on unless I have to. So I'll have to settle for draining the oil out of both intercoolers, the link pipe, cleaning them out as best as possible and ensuring the openings are not full of leaves, hibernating animals or roadkill. Maybe just replace the intercooler hoses as I'm sure they'll be swelling a bit under pressure. That is until I browse eBay or similar and see a bargain...
I have a spare set of silicon hoses ( pro hoses) that are for the intercooler. Can let them go for cheap money if you like .

Actually you get send a receipt (invoice) and they will honor the warranty, you just have make sure to use it. I made a mistake once while fitting a J&R driveshaft on a vauxhall vectra c. Longstory short the shockabsorber put a hole in the outer cv boot, fully my mistake, I called them up to order a new one got asked why as i just received a set, told the man what happened and they send out a replacement straight away, told me to send the one with the hole back with the delivery man. I put it back in the box got the other one the next day and handed the delivery man the old one. now that is what call service I didn't even have to pay for the replacement. It's one of the reasons why i keep going back to J&R. plus the fact you can get seriously strong versions if you go nuts and build a big BHP, high torque engine.

Good old fashioned customer service wins every time.

Finally managed to get all 4 lemans all wet and dried and etch primed.

The finish is pretty good to be honest, I cant decide whether to sand down again before painting or just go ontop, any thoughts chaps.

So with that in mind, once I've painted and lacquered and its all nice and hard, what's the recommended product to apply to help keep them free from the effects of road chemicals etc.

I’ve always used the Autoglym spray on stuff. Not sure how effective it really is though. Seems to work well on the Superturismo’s after a good clean

I just feel something to create a barrier will help save the lacquer a bit rather than just having it exposed to the element all the time, just the same as with car paintwork really.

I’ve seen people using specialist wheel wax in the past, but I’ve not got enough hours in the day for that!

i was just thinking from brake dust , grit and the such like inbetween wash times.

See the thing with the keep brake dust off, to me is just a waste of money. Brake dust will settle on the wheels period regardless of what is used professional stuff or not. I used to just use pledge multi surface to help battle the brake dust and other dust... can't be bothered anymore as it's spray on than buff off, it does help but as soon as it starts raining or you drive through a big puddle it doesn't last long the same goes for those professional wheel anti brake dust products.

So if you really want to give them a go, take the wives pledge multi surface out of her cleaning products stash and spray those wheels with it than buff the stuff around with a microfibre cloth. at first you'll be amazed as to how well it works than after silly little rain and you driving for a few miles, you'll soon notice it needs doing again ( i got tired of the British wet weather so stopped doing it)

PS the Pledge Multi Surface cleaner is cheaper than any of the professional wheel products and does the same job. Save money if you really want to give it a go. :icon thumright:

You should be able to send Pm's, i'll pm you and reply so i can check the pm service is working ok.

I was checking the Lemans this morning with a view to top coating then noticed some curb damage still showing through, the etch primer has highlighted it, it was doing my head in so decided to sand the rim down again, do more filling an shaping until It was as close as to perfect as possible.
I could have just sanded it out but I really didn't want to lose that thin lip detail which is normally sanded out when refubed.
all sorted and primed again.

I am happy now that sorted, yes it may sound a bit OTT but if a jobs worth doing, it is worth doing properly.:yahoo:

before sanding and filling stage 1 , quite a big curb rash section and rim material missing.

The original colour is on the RAL chart... it's called alloy wheel silver. Granted LA7W comes close but is not it... it'll look good though. When I do mine I won't be using the RAL chart either... those 18 inch s-line wheels will be 2 tone is all I'll say.

I was happy to go with the same shade that the Lemans were which looked good on the old bus, the chaps at the paint shop matched it spot on , no brainer really.

OEM + as i like to say.
