hi was going through ebay lookin for a cat back and came across mij performance they do custom made exhausts has anyone heard of them before? any info would be great thanx

I'm booked in Saturday for a 3" system... will be writing it up on my build thread when done :)

<tuffty/>

where abouts are they based / what kind of prices? i only need a new cat to back box though

there was a group buy thread on here through Ryan1.8t giving special deals to ASN Members

It's where i want to go to get mine done, as the S4 guys have nothing but praise for them

just been on there site ive emailed for a quote, tufftybloke how much is yours going to be if you dont mind me asking?

Pretty sure you will get a 2.5" system for £250, as Mark has said there is a deal for ASN members with S3's/A3's... Mine is gonna be about £360 iirc...

<tuffty/>

Just been alerted to here by a mod!!
I hate to say it guys but I had a truly terrible experience when they made me an exhaust. I had problems almost immediately and gave up trying to get them to sort it in the end. Be careful

Thanks mate... guessing its a bit of a lottery for custom exhausts too...

I am gonna check out the gear before I part with my cash tbh...

What sort of probs did you have?

<tuffty/>

You name it, it went wrong! HAd to give up on it in the end constant mesing, tyring to adjust it to stop it rattling, vibrating, rubber hangers breaking, baffles went, just a total nightmare.

Never again

This year. Junked it after about 4.5 months, could not be ***** with it! Easier and cheaper to get one done locally, more expense, but touch wood, so far not one issue.

not good will wait to see how tufftybloke's goes before i book then, does anyone know of anywhere more local to hertfordshire where i can get it done?

My Mrs used to live 20 yards away from MIJ. They have a pretty workshop, some flashy looking motors parked about the place but they always seemed to be changing tyres and doing minor jobs to local chavved up Saxos, nothing serious! Always plenty of Asian guys hanging about playing some B line and talking the talk and giving each other high fives!

Fingers crossed... I told the guy I would be writing this up on the forum so hopefully it will be a good job... lets hope if it is then its the norm rather than special treatment.

I do hope it works out alright Paul.

You and me both Jase... could do without another expensive waste of time...

hope so to mate they say on the website you inspect the job to make sure your completely satisfied so least you know what to check over now

cool i will be the 1st person reading your write up on it lol

Will also look to log appropriate blocks in VAGCOM for a comparison... turbo spool 'should' be better and over all air flow better too... EGT's is the main drive for this as at the moment they are too high.

Not sure how much extra power I will get out of it but guess we will see at the next dyno run :)

<tuffty/>

good man that will help me decide whether its worth driving from hemel then handing my hard earned cash over for rubbish gains in performance and build quality

You may not get much BHP increase from it tbh, mine is a different case as I am making a bit more power than your average remap ;P

Quicker spool and faster response from what I understand is typical for an exhaust upgrade as it helps the engine breath... Mines being strangled by the OEM exhaust cutting my top end power and backing up exhaust gases that much my EGT's are far too high...

<tuffty/>

yeah true though after xmas im going to get the engine rebuilt and bigger turbo etc

The max pipe size they had was 2.75 when I had mine done.

They said they had 3"... may give them a call back tomorrow to confirm a few things methinks :)

<tuffty/>

There use to be a chap on here who worked for MIJ, he had a nicely done S3 also, which I had a go in, it spooled up very nicely for a standard Turbo, he was also running Koni top adjustables which was hard as firk, so the car bounced all over the place, but it did corner very well compared to mine.

the plot thickens.... max pipework of 2.75"?
chav'd up saxo's?

sounds like a powerflow or Longlife type affair... where quality is as random as the guy on the tools.

Pipewerx would be my choice personally, with Ian Birch crafting something suitable. He made my ibiza one, which is on there fine to this day some 600bhp later (when he worked at Blueflame)

Could have mentioned it before mate ;P

Quite a trek unless of course they already have an off the shelf solution... Might drop them a line though in case they have a jig for an S3..

That was Maz. He left MIJ about a year ago..

Hi guys. Just a word of advice before you go to mij. They were crap when I went down there. I had a mondeo at the time and I was having coilpack problems so I booked it in for a diognostic check. Being a performance garage I would of thought they would tell me the problem but the guy told me "your clutch has gone mate". I thought that this was utter nonsense so I asked them to take it for a drive and see for themselves. The guy came back and said it was my MAF!! Big change from clutch too maf? I then went to a local ford specialist and they told me it was a coilpack problem. Unfortunatly I wrote the car off racing my cousin in his 1.8 tqs lol. He had problems with them too. His airbag light was on and they could only reset it about 3 times and not tell him why it cane on. After some experiments... It turned out to be some sensor under the passengers seat. We also believe that the dump valve they put in was pretty dodgey. All in all a crap experience from them. You guys have awesome cars, don't trust those cowboys to do a custom job of ruining your s3's. It's worth going elsewhere from my experience. They all seem to be working on that skyline they have. Miltek owners that I now have pretty good feedback!
