I've kept this one a little quiet, partly because it all happened quickly and also I've been in Rome for the six nations rugby, but I picked up last week a very nearly new Nardo TT-RS with most of the bells and whistles on it. The chance of a great deal came up and it was too much to resist.
Some of the spec:
- Nardo with black styling pack
- 20" gloss black alloys
- OLED rear / matrix lights
- Optional alcantara diamond quilted seats
- Comfort pack
- Sports exhaust
- Smartphone connect
- Red brake calipers
- Privacy glass
First thoughts are "wow", this is a seriously good looking car. It looks like a junior supercar in the flesh and really stands out (not necessarily a good thing). The wheels are stunning and the black styling pack sets everything off.
My immediate reaction when driving it was that the ride is bone shakingly hard. One of the few options it is missing is mag ride which I could barely tell in my RS3, and so was no big deal for me. Can you believe in most other countries Audi charge extra for the fixed suspension?! The other thing I noticed was the tyre roar. It was deafening. Running on 255/30/20's all round is always going to generate some noise but even so it was more than I thought.
Other things...the interior is just another level. Super sporty, classy and well put together all at once, the steering wheel being a real highlight. The virtual cockpit is growing on me. I still maintain that if it was an expensive option I might swerve it.
The noise! Hmm, well it's just not anywhere near as good as my PFL RS3 was. In fact, it is probably the most disappointing thing with it. It's probably because I have been spoilt by the RS3 but it's so much more mute. That said, I do get what people say about it sounding more gruff at lows revs and I don't doubt that it sounds good to everyone outside of the car. I'd just like a lot more of the noise filtered into the cabin.
Performance wise, it's a little nippier than the RS3 but not night and day, and feels some way behind a stage 1 PFL RS3. It does seem to chase the red line with a bit more vigour. The numbers don't lie and standard TT-RS's have been clocking 3.4s to 60mph and close to 8s flat to 100mph, so I'm sure once I try LC for the first time that I'll be blown away.
The handling is spectacular. I was a huge fan of my RS3 and it's biggest supporter, but I also acknowledged it was a bit of a lump to throw about...more of a muscle car feel to its handling. The TT-RS is completely different. It's usefully lighter and it is so obviously more nimble and agile.
All in all I'm pleased about my move and it will be interesting to see how I get on. I'll try to get photos up once it's clean as it's already filthy. I also reckon I have that exhaust rattle...like a fast clacking sounds until the revs die down after a cold start.
