I've kept this one a little quiet, partly because it all happened quickly and also I've been in Rome for the six nations rugby, but I picked up last week a very nearly new Nardo TT-RS with most of the bells and whistles on it. The chance of a great deal came up and it was too much to resist.

Some of the spec:

- Nardo with black styling pack
- 20" gloss black alloys
- OLED rear / matrix lights
- Optional alcantara diamond quilted seats
- Comfort pack
- Sports exhaust
- Smartphone connect
- Red brake calipers
- Privacy glass

First thoughts are "wow", this is a seriously good looking car. It looks like a junior supercar in the flesh and really stands out (not necessarily a good thing). The wheels are stunning and the black styling pack sets everything off.

My immediate reaction when driving it was that the ride is bone shakingly hard. One of the few options it is missing is mag ride which I could barely tell in my RS3, and so was no big deal for me. Can you believe in most other countries Audi charge extra for the fixed suspension?! The other thing I noticed was the tyre roar. It was deafening. Running on 255/30/20's all round is always going to generate some noise but even so it was more than I thought.

Other things...the interior is just another level. Super sporty, classy and well put together all at once, the steering wheel being a real highlight. The virtual cockpit is growing on me. I still maintain that if it was an expensive option I might swerve it.

The noise! Hmm, well it's just not anywhere near as good as my PFL RS3 was. In fact, it is probably the most disappointing thing with it. It's probably because I have been spoilt by the RS3 but it's so much more mute. That said, I do get what people say about it sounding more gruff at lows revs and I don't doubt that it sounds good to everyone outside of the car. I'd just like a lot more of the noise filtered into the cabin.

Performance wise, it's a little nippier than the RS3 but not night and day, and feels some way behind a stage 1 PFL RS3. It does seem to chase the red line with a bit more vigour. The numbers don't lie and standard TT-RS's have been clocking 3.4s to 60mph and close to 8s flat to 100mph, so I'm sure once I try LC for the first time that I'll be blown away.

The handling is spectacular. I was a huge fan of my RS3 and it's biggest supporter, but I also acknowledged it was a bit of a lump to throw about...more of a muscle car feel to its handling. The TT-RS is completely different. It's usefully lighter and it is so obviously more nimble and agile.

All in all I'm pleased about my move and it will be interesting to see how I get on. I'll try to get photos up once it's clean as it's already filthy. I also reckon I have that exhaust rattle...like a fast clacking sounds until the revs die down after a cold start.

I find this amusing as a few months ago I was behind a new TTRS and it certainly was not quiet!

Everyone was looking around to see what that loud noise was; I can only hope my RS3 sounds as good as that when I hopefully collect it this week!

yeah my dealer has exact same one....I agree with you, the interior is a different league altogether from RS3...seats especially but also driving position and headroom (for me anyway)....feels very special

could be that theres more soundproofing in the FL based on what you are both saying :)

I think the best way I can describe the old iron block 5cyl vs the new aluminium engine, is that the PFL sounds more like how you'd expect a 7cyl to sound like! The new engine is more how a 5cyl might expect to sound. It has a slightly more tinny sound to it.

I'm not completely knocking it, it's still a good sound.

Well done! Enjoy!
I think the TTRS is maybe the best value of the RS range and you can outgun an R8. Up to 60 anyway!

Well you sneaky devil you! Cars looks amazing in that spec with black pack. Good choice!

I nearly bought a TTRS in exactly the same colour/spec. I liked the fact that it actually has a hatchback instead of a tiny boot opening, and with the rear seats folded down there is a surprisingly large amount of room to carry stuff. My youngest (11yrs old) could fit in the rear seats too. I agree with your comment on the interior, it has a nice feel to the switchgear and the seats are really good too. Dealer was playing hardball on the price (zero discount on these sir) so I walked away.

I had a phone call a few days later from the dealer that supplied my current car. 10 minutes of negotiation and substantial discount offered, and hey presto I have ordered a FL Sportback in Nardo, black pack and all the other usual bells and whistles.

Congratulations on the new car order. Will be interested to see your comments on PFL vs FL! And how long before you remap it ;)

The stock FL car feels very flat in the mid-range compared to my current car (which surprised the sales guy:smiley:) but it's running MRC stage 2 and has a lot more torque (689nm). I have been watching the tuning developments on the FL car very carefully owing to the engine having many significant changes in it's design (use of alloys, plasma coating, additional set of injectors, larger turbo, hollow crank etc etc). So far, it appears to be exceeding expectations so I have decided to bite the bullet and order one. Car is due for May delivery.
I plan to allow everything to bed in for a couple of thousand miles before I start adding mods. I will probably start with an MRC stage 1 custom map and do a comparison before and after dyno run for the standard car versus stage 1. If I get time, I will also try some 1/4 mile comparisons at Santa Pod and post up the results. I will then upgrade to the stage 2 custom map (MRC again) and do the same set of comparisons as for stage 1. I am not planning to have the dsg mapped this time round unless it becomes a necessity, or swap out the downpipe either (the car will be a daily driver).

Should be some interesting results!

Already missing the old iron block engine. But then I look at it and I can forgive it for not quite sounding as good!

Oh wow that’s pretty cool! Whereabouts are you working at the moment? What aspect of the project do you work in? Planning, track work?

Sounds like you need to relocate to this lovely place ;)

I’m loving it, fantastic piece of kit and I can’t see me getting bored of it for a long long time.

I'm working from Cardiff to Bristol so sites can be anywhere depending on the possessions of the lines in place.
I work in railway construction for the overhead electrification and run my own team and cover all aspects of it on projects all over the UK.
Yea Cardiff is a nice place, I was at the rugby at the weekend, awesome experience it was.
Glad to hear your enjoying the car bud.

Congrats and enjoy.

I think the RS3's supersports seats are lovely and the slightly more butch look suits the car.

Managed to get out in the car today as not had much chance to drive it since getting it last weeks. The driving position is superb and easily the best of all the cars I've driven. The virtual cockpit is also growing on me. For the sheer amount of information it can provide, it is certainly better than the old analogue dials in that regard.

Anyway, I've a question about this Audi Connect... I registered this evening online and it's given me an eight digit pin which I apparently put into the car. I have also been given something else by the dealer. Looks similar to a SIM card with another seven digit number. It's in a plastic case and I was told to rub off the material which will give me another number?

Anyway, once that's been answered, can I ask of the benefits to this, or is it a bit of a gimmick? I think I read somewhere that it gives you google maps with live traffic updates?

Go into the mmi system for Audi Connect it’ll say login / password or via pin entry.
Type in your pin.

:readit:The pfl rs3 sound better than the fl rs3 the pops and bangs are another level on pfl the s3 fl sounds better than pfl s3 the overrun pops somethings going on at Audi gmbh:shrug:

The sim should be an embedded sim? so unsure why you seemingly have a separate one, but once set up the only thing i use on audi-connect is google earth, that said, it is flaming brilliant! to be fair i have used the car park locators before too which were helpful.

Emailed the sales guy this morning and he said I need to buy a sim and keep it topped up? Don't understand why.

I don't see why... My RS came with a 36month subscription to Audi-Infotainment. The sim is embedded in the car, I just had to create a my audi account and then log into this on the car, and tweak the data management setting and it activated. Only need to top up after the 3rd year, but my sales guy (friend) said call Audi and they will extend it as they cannot work out how to charge people for something that has been included from the start.

The ONLY feature not included is activating the cars WIFI hotspot, you need to pay for this.

Well I'm baffled in that case. As soon as I go into Audi Connect in the settings it says to insert SIM. I'll run it round to the local dealer at some point.

On a separate note, I just tried two launch controls. It makes one hell of a noise when holding the revs, louder I would say than the PFL RS3 at this point. However, both times I suffered excessive wheel spin. It is quite greasy out but I would have expected more traction. I'll have to try on a dry day. Also found that going round some twisty roads that the back end wanted to drift out. It's certainly more rear biased.

Yes mate, standard spec here, and it is listed with the 36month subscription...

Your sales guy is like most and clearly know the square root of f all. Sim should be embedded in factory and just need activating, if go into the settings you will find data module, turn this off and back on and it should activate (could be a glitch that it says insert sim)

TT's are a different feel to the A3 base. Glad you're enjoying it though and definitely have to try on a dry day, although good luck finding one lol.
