What you probably saw being used was a carbide insert maybe a TCMT AK10 grade? Both diamond and carbide are used in turning aluminium. The diamond inserts would give a better mirror like finish compared to carbide also the diamond inserts would last longer. :thumbs up:
I didn't even know you were that clever buddy :whistle2: :friends:

I was thinking this as well. Never understood the diamond cut wheel. It’s clearly just a turned finish. Most tips nowadays are carbide. Never seen ally cut with diamond ever. We use industrial diamonds for creep feed grinding continuous wheel dressing and conventional grinding wheel dressing. That’s it. For especially hard materials we occasionally use CBN inserts. Aluminium alloys are among the softest. However that’s just in my experience I may be wrong.

Use diamond inserts daily with my job.. Only use it on aluminium where a quality surface finish is required.

I surprise myself with that thought every day lol.
It's made me chuckle reading posts on manufacturing on this forum.... More interesting than cars lol

Funny enough, I have literally just asked @T-1000 that question

Still not a fan of the dash and that front end though.
But alternatives are few for me as I need the practicality of the hatchback.

Clever machine that just follows the original wheel profile, but after a couple of owners and a couple of refurbs who's to say the wheel is still strong enough?

Me neither, I was out on motorbike today and passed a 19 plate RS4, tidy looking car, except for the stuck on ipad on the dash :( I mean ive probably got another 9 months or so before my RS3 lands so may as well have a look around :)

I may be going to see one tomorrow as i'm travelling past the Audi centre with 3 in, depends on if theres enough hours in the day though

When I had a 8P RS3 rotor machined at JpAlloys in Cannock the owner told me it would take around 5 refurbs before an issue would arise.
Was fascinating to watch their CNC do it’s thing.

agreed the golf r alloys look smart - just think the TTS/TTRS alloys are too similar to the dated rotor alloys from the RS3 and every other Audio for the last 10 years:

Hardly anything special about them.

I do think the new RS3 satin black alloys look the business:

View attachment 244062

But the graphic design just looks a bit "busy" and the graphics detract from the alloy design.
The matt black alloy is a cleaner design and looks better for it.
The graphics look like decals and cheapen the look of the alloy.

matt are great but that design ar so ugly

has anyone even ordered the base model? yet to see someone say
I have, I'm happy to just have the RS3 badge on it let alone all the fancy bits. Plus having had a few cars with black wheels, I must admit they drove me insane on a daily driver. Although matte isn't as bad as gloss black.

My Spec is:

Turbo Blue
Comfort & Sound
Roof Rails (for looks and for transporting mountain bikes to races)
Sports Exhaust

Can't wait to get it, my first RS car

Cheers

Steve

But I guess that (5 Refurbs) doesnt take into account just how much metal he needs to remove to get rid of the kerbing?

its because rs3 has alcantara everywhere :p
Previously yes but I don't think the 8Y does. I think it's a glitch in the configurator, although I'll be happy enough if the door inserts are in alcantara because it looks nicer on the ambient lighting. :thumbs up:

At least with the wait it's given me time to make sure I have done the right thing ordering a RS3 Vorsprung, I have an agreement, If I dont like the demo I can cancel with a full refund, probably no loss to the dealer as they will just shuffle everyone up the ladder I would imagine, but gives me time to try and find an RS4 around the RS3 price, with adaptive cruise and either Daytona or red, and not nardo ***, Also gives me chance to check out other candidates, M340D for one, just about as quick as RS4/RS3 and silly big mpg.

One thing that is playing on my mind with BEV approaching is how much tax (VED and Fuel) the Govt will load onto Dinoosaur cars within the next 5 years or so?
I think that is quite a good arrangement you have to enable you to keep options open. I have seen a few articles in regards the future and it does seem that petrol will be around for quite a few years to come. Price wise the Govt can’t simply increase cost too much as that has a detrimental effect on less well off and social mobility for those that can’t afford BEVs.

I think VED would be were we felt it as every budget seems to add another £10 to the over £40k list price cars. As I start typing this I was going to finish by saying I’d convinced myself that after seeing Jassy’s quote that I could make the figures work on my side and to go with Snake’s themeI was caving too. but know i’m thinking I was to see figures in black and white before committing. I feel a spreadsheet is required for full justification of the decision.

A spreadsheet and to actually see an RS3 and sit in it before signing up. So in summary i’m still on the fence....and it hurts.

This ^.

One of two things is likely going to happen:

A) you like it and want one so wish you had bought one ages ago so you didn’t still have a massive wait ahead of you

Or

B) you’ll find tiny things to critique the car on to “justify” why you won’t be buying one, but they will be trivial and/or regurgitate what ever you tubers have said when click baiting one of their videos, whilst ultimately you never really intended to change anyhow.

A.Each to their own....some folks may still like their current car...and look upon the RS3 8Y as their next car but don't want to rush into one given these uncertain times
B.The majority of RS3 buyers use finance ie debt and a lot people maybe just not ready to take on this considerable amount debt that others don't blink an eye on doing.
C. Some are just happy getting the RS badge on the car others are want to tick all the boxes...maybe because that's what they've been use too.... all or nothing buyers

You mention trivial reasons...care to elaborate?

I wasn’t intending to get into a debate on it tbh it was tongue in cheek.

Trivial reasons? Take a look back at most of your posts…

Seriously though, everyone has their own circumstances and no one has to explain themselves to me…

I aint wanna debate either mate what car are you coming from ...may l ask

They must have been fairly trivial given you’ve placed an order…

Everyone has a different background in cars so makes sense that what is trivial to some might be a deal breaker to another. Was just poking fun at things

Ps. What is/does IRS3 mean?

I think his pounding was more because he had previously been nit-picking and being negative about most aspects of the UK options for the RS3 and made out he wouldn’t order one, then ordered one!

People can change their minds though, jeez my Mrs changes her mind all the time, from decorating every 6 months to what she wears, I may think I don’t like it but then I just go with the flow and realise I do

Oh I agree, but usually that starts with ‘I’m not sure about those wheels’ or ‘I’d prefer X or Y’ rather than ‘I’m not buying because I’m not an Audi fanboy like those in here’ or ‘I don’t like the look of any of the alloys’ or ‘I don’t like any of the colours and would only buy in exclusive’ (then not order in exclusive). He was SO negative towards the car and people ordering it, and that’s the point, rather than just changing his mind.

That all being said, I’m glad you’ve ordered one as well, @jassyo06. I am for anyone ordering a car they fancy. And I hope you find a colour and spec combo that suits your needs and lets you enjoy it as much as we can with our limited UK spec options.

The 8y has split opinion across the board since its launch us old Audi fanboys were/still are dissapointed to an extent but it is what it is as they say
New/to be Audi owners have a far more positive approach to the 8Y
it's clear to see this it on this forum/threads the Rs3 is the only variant I'd have as l wouldn't/didn't even consider the S3 8y which is a very poor replacement for the 8v S3

I know what you mean, I’m a returning Audi fanboy after having a few over the years and agree the options aren’t as I’d ideally like.

I’m in a position where I want to get back into a fast Audi that I can cart the kids around in if needed and to be honest the RS3 is the only one that appeals to me and that isn’t out of my price bracket. Would’ve had an S4 avant again but really don’t fancy a diesel that’s supposed to be a performance car.

Hell I'll freeze over first before anything posted on here bothers me babe ...being on a car forum ie this one for so long you do become immune to other's jibes and silly comments...but l like to keep things friendly
Of course l have my haters...so what had a few ovrr the years ..but they soon go after they've took delivery of their new cars ....

Absolutely mate, I learnt a long time ago I’m number 5 in the household behind wife, daughter, 3 x dogs ***.
But when the wife goes out and daughter is at school I tell the dogs to feck off and I get the remote control. :thumbs up:
Edit: no wonder I’m number 5, can’t even count how many dogs I’ve got, 2 not 3 lol
