Hi all,

My 15 plate A3 2.0 TDI 8V manual 6 gears got to 77K miles with no issues until today. On a return journey of 50 ish miles, 5 miles before home at a roundabout I noticed my clutch was stuck halfway. It was like the whole pedal range was condensed to this half which made the clutch 'bite' very low and at a very narrow point which made me stall the engine a couple of times until I got it going. While in 4th I managed to flick the pedal back to normal and after that, the car worked normally with the clutch 'until I got home.
Has anyone experienced this before? Is it likely it's the slave cylinder? If yes, can someone remember how much they've paid for it? I heard it's very expensive as you might as well replace the whole clutch as well while the box is off.
Cheers!

My daughter's TT did similar. Either maser or slave cylinder hers was the slave.
If it's the same as the ea888 the slave is around £50 but is concentric (around the gearbox input shaft) and it's a gearbox off to change it. So yes, the labour is the costly part so change the whole clutch (and possibly the DMF) whilst you are in there.
If it's FWD budget £6-800 including parts for an indie to do the work.

Thanks,

I rang my local garage today and they've said that from what I've told them it's likely to be the whole shebang. I was hoping the slave is on the outside, and just to replace that 1st. Actually, they didn't even mention this, just said 'yes, it's the clutch and flywheel' not it's the slave, and will have to change the rest as we're in there anyway. So at the minute, I don't even know what type of slave cylinder I have. Is it easy to find out?
L.E. Spoke with my local Audi dealer and the parts guy was kind enough to look into it for me. Obviously the slave it's in the bell housing!
Thanks,

Dan

Quick search confirms it is this part and it's concentric.
My god these have gone up!
I bought this OEM part from audi-parts-uk for my S3 for £31 last year to fit with the uprated clutch.

Well,

I rang the same garage today as waiting for the quote for the clutch repair for a couple of days and got a tech which I have kinda known from before. I've told him the same thing and the fact that since the clutch issue happened I've driven for 100 ish miles (some in stop-start traffic), he asked me if the brake fluid is normal, which is, then he advised me to keep an eye on it for the time being. Now, the thing is I don't trust the car anymore and I had to find another car from a friend to go to the airport on Saturday as I can't afford to miss the flight because I've broken down on the way there.
I'm split now... I don't really want to spend almost 1k if I don't need to but I really don't want to be driving around with an unreliable car either...
What do you guys think?

Cheers,
D

if the gearbox is coming out and you are replacing dmf?, clutch you might as well replace the slave cylinder as the labour is already paid for and part isn’t that expensive relative to the whole job.

Daughter drove her TT for two months and it kept 'coming right'. :sadlike: - until it got worse.
She didn't end up having the flywheel done, just the clutch and slave and it's been spot on since.
You really need to remove the DMF and lay it flat to check it.
As AlS3BE says, If you have the job done any garage will replace the slave as a matter of course.
Many local garages however will want to supply the parts to guarantee their work and that could mean pot luck of whatever brand of cheapness the local motor factors have on the shelf at the time.
You will need to get it done at some point.

I got an 2015 2.0Tdi CRLB with the 150 ps and before 3 months my slave cylinder leaking you are the unlucky one like me because our slave cylider is inside the clutch box there are some models that is outside.
So i had to change slave cylider and my car had 190k km so the garage told me to change also clutch and flywheel.
So here is what i bough from parts and N90320701 X6 screws and N90847002 X3 sxrews plus the clutch flywheel and slave cylinder on the photo

If you want to price up the parts or looking to source and buy the parts yourself, Carpartsinmotion and Aceparts are reliable eBay suppliers of Sachs and LUK parts at a great price.
Both also have an extra 15% off until the 8th Sept.

Hiya all,

Sorry for the late reply.
As an update, I got an estimate from my local indie VAG specialist ad my eyes are watering... almost £1200 to get the clutch and flywheel renewed :( don't even think the parts are genuine.
Anyway, I'll probably have to bite the bullet and repair it... All I'm asking is, is this price reasonable for the day?
Also, as a side note, I've called Audi and they quoted £1300 but w/o the flywheel, they've said it doesn't need changing usually but they'll inspect it. So in my indie's quote the flywheel only it was £350 ex vat, so can I just take that off from the indie and just ask them to fit just the slave and the clutch?

Cheers,

Dan

Update: 4 months and 2500 ish miles have passed and the car still drives!! I have AA cover and I don't really want to spend £1300 if I really don't need to, so I'll wait.
In the interim, I think I'll buy the parts myself as suggested by @Matt Titanium. However, I'm struggling to find the right ones. I've been on the eBay sellers pages and they post more than one variant for my car so I'm not quite sure what to order. Is there a way I can get the P/Ns from somewhere? I don't really want to buy the wrong thing, especially when the only time I can find out I got the right or wrong parts is when I end up in the garage.
thanks,
D

if it’s like parts for older Vag cars theres loads of variants of the same part. Remember doing my old golf tdi years ago and I tried like 5 different flywheel/clutch combinations before getting the right one on the 1.9pd engine.
same engine could have different power outputs ,gearboxes and orientation depending on car it’s fitted to and this causes loads of variants of a part for what is essentially the same engine.
some motor factors are more knowledgeable so can help better some like ecp will keep chucking different parts at you till it sticks.
